Llandudno Xmas Parade 2024
« on: November 16, 2024, 10:25:16 am »
When is Llandudno Christmas Parade and what can you see?

The town council will be holding its Christmas parade on December 7.

The parade will leave Llandudno railway station at 4pm, and travel through Vaughan Street, Mostyn Street, past the town hall on Lloyd Street, down Madoc Street, before heading back to the station.

It will be led by the Clwyd and Gwynedd ACF Corps of Drums and Knights of Snowdon, followed by Father Christmas on his sleigh.

Other attractions include the Theatr Colwyn Pinocchio-themed pantomime float, a nativity float, the Cambria Band, Christmas-themed stilt walkers, juggling elves, and many characters, as well as young people’s groups from Llandudno.

Entertainment will take place outside the town hall from 2.15pm, featuring Llandudno Town Band, Llandudno Youth Music Theatre, Linzi Grace School of Dance, carol singing from Ysgol Glanwydden, and a Christmas message from Reverend Morris.

Once the parade has left Lloyd Street, there will be a 25-minute show, followed by a performance from the Batala Samba Band.

The Christmas Parade chairman, Councillor Antony Bertola, said: "As the Christmas Parade approaches, we are all really excited about seeing the performers and talented acts.

"You will be able to witness Christmas characters, singing, dancing, and an array of music as the parade progresses through the town of Llandudno.

"We look forward to seeing you on the day.

"I must also like to thank everyone within the council and the volunteers who work so hard on this event.

"Thank you all for supporting the town."

Llandudno Christmas parade cancelled due to weather

As a result of an amber weather warning being declared for the county of Conwy on Saturday (December 7), including the probability of high winds gusting between 60-80mph, the decision has been made to cancel the event.

The town council apologised for the disappointment this will cause, but said the decision was made to prioritise the “safety of our parade participants and volunteers, particularly our younger members”.

Mayor of Llandudno, Cllr Michael Pearce, added that the decision was made “with a heavy heart”.

The parade was due to depart Llandudno railway station at 4pm on Saturday and make its way along Vaughan Street, Mostyn Street, past the town hall on Lloyd Street, and down Madoc Street, before returning to the station.

It's a tricky one, to be sure, but Llandudno is very vulnerable to high winds and, in this instance, potentially to flooding. Saturday, from 0300 to 1100, is under a Red warning. although it's possible most of the Conwy area could escape the worst of it. Whatever happens, however, it's unlikely to be a pleasant weekend.

Red warnings are very rare, and for good reason. They bring

Danger to life due to flying debris and falling trees
Large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and    homes
Power cuts affecting other services, such as mobile phone coverage
Damage to buildings and homes, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down
Roads, bridges and railway lines closed, with delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights

Stay safe, everyone.
