Cambrian Rally 2024: Competitors rev up for a challenge!
« on: April 24, 2024, 10:08:04 am »
A LONGER route, reduced road mileage, and exceptional gravel stages, including one of 16 miles, hold promise for a challenging Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally in the autumn.

Organisers North Wales Car Club say the route is set to be one of the toughest, yet most compact in recent years, with a ratio of two to one road miles versus stage miles.

Discussion are at an advanced stage with Natural Resources Wales to secure stage mileage of 55 to 60 miles.

?The stages will be contained in a compact area and we are hoping to finalise discussion soon to use Elsi for a single run, plus stages in the Clocaenog complex, and at Alwen and Brenig,? said Alyn Edwards, the event?s route consultant.

As in previous years there will be a high profile start and finish on the promenade in Llandudno.

The event is pleased to be a round of the Probite British Rally Championship, the Protyre BTRDA Rally Series, the Motorsport UK Pirelli Welsh Championship, the TCS Paint Rally Challenge, the Mini Challenge, and the Association of North Western Car Clubs Championship.

For the first time, it?s also a round of the Stellantis Motorsport Rally Cup which is played out over events in Ireland and the UK.

Conwy County Borough Council and Llandudno Town Council both support the event.                  ref pioneer

RALLYING legend Stig Blomqvist will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of his 1984 World Rally Championship win by competing in October’s Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally.

The popular Swedish driver will be in a specially prepared 1964 Mini Cooper S for his only competitive rally outing in the UK this year.

His co-driver will be Paul Morris, meanwhile.

Cambrian Rally spokesman Alyn Edwards said: “We are excited that Stig has chosen the Cambrian to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his WRC title.

Most competitors will face a longer route than usual, just under 60 miles in the forests of North West Wales.

The final event of the series will determine the British Rally Championship title, with closely contested races expected in the British Trials and Rally Drivers Association Championship categories.

Spectators will have designated viewing areas at all competitive stages, with the opportunity to watch the leading stars of British rallying.

"The event will offer a huge test of skill and tyre management for crews, with 20.55 road miles from the start in Llandudno before competitors tackle the eight-mile first stage at Llyn Elsi.

The rally will start and finish on Llandudno promenade on Saturday, October 26.

Tickets for car parking at the competitive stages are available now, and early purchase is recommended due to likely high demand.

Additionally, there is a VIP hospitality facility at the Llyn Brenig Visitor Centre with access to the Brenig and Alwen stages.

Tickets for this can also be purchased online at www.cambrianrally.co.uk.

The Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally will have a mix of former European and World Rally champions competing.

The event, starting and finishing in Llandudno on Saturday, is expected to attract many motorsport fans.

This year, the rally features a competitive line-up with British driver Chris Ingram, the 2019 FIA European Rally champion, battling for the Probite British Rally Championship title at the Cambrian.

Ingram will have to fend off competition from former British champion William Creighton, four-times champion Keith Cronin, and 2022 title holder Osian Pryce.
