The St David?s Hospice Tree of Lights 2022
« on: October 01, 2022, 10:28:55 am »
By Marie Lidgett from St David's Hospice, Llandudno

The St David?s Hospice Tree of Lights will once again shine brightly in memory of loved ones.

At St David?s Hospice, we understand the joys that Christmas can bring, as well as the challenges that families face at this time of year as we naturally reflect and think of those who are no longer with us.

Standing proudly on the Cayley promenade on Rhos on Sea, the Hospice Tree of Lights will shine brightly in memory of loved ones and remains a comfort to all at a difficult time of year.

For a small donation to St David?s Hospice, you are invited to dedicate a light on the Hospice?s Tree of Lights, to remember a loved one and support the work of the Hospice at the same time.

The Tree of Lights ?switching-on? ceremony, kindly organised by The Rhos on Sea Rotary, will take place on the Cayley Promenade, Rhos on Sea on November 27 at 4.30pm, when the lights will be lit for the first time this year. Each light will remain lit throughout the festive season.

For each dedication, a Tree of Lights card will be sent to you by post. Your loved ones? names will also be entered into a special ?Book of Lights? which will be available to view online.

To dedicate a light, write to St David?s Hospice, Abbey Rd, Llandudno LL30 2EN  along with your donation ( Cheques made payable to ?St David?s Hospice?).

Alternatively, to make your dedication online by clicking here  https://stdavidshospice.org.uk/    or visit your local Hospice shop for a dedication form.

For further information about the Tree of Lights event go email rhian.jacobs@stdavidshospice.org.uk  or call 01492 879058.

Re: THE Moonlight Memories Walk courtesy of St David?s Hospice

THE Moonlight Memories Walk courtesy of St David?s Hospice will return to Llandudno in November.

Taking place at the Craig-y-Don Community Centre on Saturday, 12 November, the four mile circular walk starts at 6pm.

The event is perfect for families and friends to come together to remember their loved ones this Christmas, and to make new memories, all whilst raising vital funds for St David?s Hospice.

And for the first time, those interested can bring their four-legged friends along to the festive evening.

The walk will go to the Hospice on Abbey Road and back, and there will be a stop-off at the halfway point where walkers can immerse themselves into the festive spirit with carol singing, marshmallow toasting and a chance to enjoy a warming refreshment whilst browsing seasonal stalls.

Rhian Jacobs, Events Coordinator, said: ?I am really excited to bring back Moonlight Memories! It?s always been a really popular event over the years and this year we?re not only opening it up to men and children, but dogs too!

?It?s the perfect way to get the whole family into the festive spirit as we have something for everyone to enjoy.

?Llandudno is such a beautiful town, even more so during the Christmas period. The Christmas lights and Ferris wheel are a spectacular sight during the winter nights, and the Christmassy buzz can be felt throughout the streets.

?Make sure you keep an eye out for our fabulous Moonlight Memories window displays in our retail shops across Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey.?

Standard entry tickets are 16 for adults, 12 for under 16s and 45 for a family (2 adults & 2 children), raising sponsorship is optional.

As part of the entry fee, each walker will receive their own limited edition bobble hat to keep warm, and a Christmas bauble to place on your own tree at home as a memento. The event is sponsored by Gareth Roberts Opticians.

St David?s Hospice would like to thank all the members of the Rhos-on-Sea and Llangefni Rotary for their continued support and for their kind-hearted voluntary work.

Since launching the Tree of Lights 24-years-ago, the campaign has raised over ?386,000 for local end of life care. The St David?s Hospice Tree of Lights continues to shine brightly in memory of loved ones and remains a comfort to all at a difficult time of year.

Last year services were held in Rhos-on-Sea and Llangefni to remember loved ones. Both services were well attended by local supporters and included switching on the lights and local choirs. The total raised in 2022 by the Tree of Lights campaign is a phenomenal ?26,245.

Art equipment appeal for therapy classes launched by St David?s Hospice
'The purpose of the therapy is to offer something that is not medical, something for patient wellbeing'

Patients at a hospice in North Wales have been taking part in art therapy classes, which have already had a positive impact on their well-being. The classes are held at St David?s Hospice sites in Llandudno, Bangor and Holyhead and now the hospice is asking supporters to help keep the classes going by donating equipment.

Suzy Morris, St David?s therapeutic artist explains, ?Laughter is a big benefit of art therapy. There is a real comradery in my art groups. The patients will talk about aspects of their lives that are bothering them but there is always a sense of joy. The purpose of the therapy is to offer something that is not medical, something for patient wellbeing.

Donations can be dropped off at Hafan Dewi Sant or St David?s Hospice in Llandudno, marked for the attention of Suzy Morris. For all enquiries email the St David?s Hospice at enquiries@stdavidshospice.org.uk

Update...Good luck to Suzy and the above appeal, a well deserved cause, we took some materials up yesterday.

THERE will be three 'Tree of Lights' switching on ceremonies this year.
The Tree of Lights events allow people to come together to remember loved ones that have died, whether at St David's Hospice in Llandudno or Anglesey or not.

The hospice will stage three events - in Rhos on Sea and Llangefni and at Llandudno?s St David?s Hospice.

As in previously years, the charity is working with Rhos on Sea Rotary Club to offer the Tree of Lights event in Rhos on Sea. They will work with the Llangefni Rotary Club for the Llangefni event.

Rhian Jacobs, Event Manger for St David?s, said: ?The Tree of Lights events are very special to so many people in our community. This year we are pleased to be able to offer an additional event at our Llandudno hospice. Once again we will be working with the Rotary clubs to offer Tree of Lights events in Rhos on Sea and Llangefni.

?Each event will give people the opportunity to remember their loved ones, and if they wish they can dedicate a light on our trees to them."

Those wishing to dedicate a light or donate can visit https://stdavidshospice.org.uk/tree-of-lights-2023/

Gavin Davies, Rhos on Sea Rotary President, said: "Rhos on Sea Rotary are looking forward to our 24th Tree of Lights Ceremony.

"The promenade works will have been completed by then and we are hopeful that we will be able to conduct the ceremony in the normal setting.

"So far the Tree of Lights has raised over ?400,000 and we hope to continue making a real contribution to the good work of St Davids Hospice.

"The Tree of Lights gives us all an opportunity to remember our loved ones at this special time and heralds the start of the Christmas season."

This year?s Tree of Lights switching on ceremonies will take place on Rhos on Sea?s Cayley Promenade on Sunday, November 26 at 4.30pm; Llandudno?s St David?s Hospice at 5pm and St Cyngar?s Church in Llangefni at 6.30pm.

With other ceremonies at Llandudno St David?s Hospice and on Anglesey, the events allowed people to remember loved ones that have died and are in aid of the charity.

St David's Hospice worked with Rhos on Sea Rotary Club to offer the Tree of Lights event in Rhos-on-Sea and the Llangefni Rotary Club for the Llangefni event.

Huge crowds attended the Rhos-on-Sea ceremony, where carol singing, led by Cor Meibion Colwyn and accompanied by Beulah Brass, was followed by the switch on by Mayor Cllr Hannah Fleet.

A rotary club spokesperson said: ?Our particular thanks go to Griffiths Construction for their preparation of the site to enable us to carry out the ceremony safely and to the public for following our directions."

Rhian Jacobs, event manager for St David?s, said: ?The Tree of Lights events are very special to so many people in our community.?
