CONWY councillors voted in favour of extending the period of planning permission for a new education and skills centre at the Welsh Mountain Zoo.

The new development will house a new alligator beach and tropical area, seven reptile exhibits, butterfly exhibit, and six species exhibits.

The plans also included a plant exhibit, two lecture rooms, two classrooms, toilets, service rooms, reptile and insect rooms, two offices, a keeper?s store, kitchen, mess, and a plant room.

The National Zoological Society of Wales was last given planning permission by Conwy County Council?s planning committee in December 2017.

But the planning application, which was originally granted in December 2017, was due to expire, following development delays caused by COVID.

COLWYN Bay Football Club hopes to erect a new 1,000-seater stand at its Old Colwyn ground.

The club has submitted a planning application to Conwy County Council?s planning department.

The planning application has been submitted by the club?s chairman Neil Coverley, and the club, who play in the JD Cymru North League, wants to upgrade its Llanelian Road ground.

As well as the impressive new stand, the plans include a car parking area at the rear of the ground.

Plans have been unveiled for a new low carbon estate of 131 affordable homes in North Wales. The 12-acre site in Pensarn, near Abergele, was acquired by housing association Cartrefi Conwy earlier this year, supported by funding from Welsh Government.

It will be the biggest housing scheme ever undertaken by Cartrefi if it?s given the green light by planners at Conwy County Borough Council. The former Inter Leisure site in Towyn Road already has planning permission for housing after it was secured by the previous owners.

Cartrefi will be applying for permission to amend the existing planning permission and have asked for more time to do so. According to Cartrefi Conwy managing director Katie Clubb, they are committed to using local labour and local suppliers, triggering a massive boost for the regional economy.

A developer could be granted permission to start work on a controversial housing site - if councillors give the green light. John Rochelle was granted outline planning permission for housing at Gyffin grazing field, adjacent to Henryd Road in Gyffin, Conwy, in October 2019, subject to a list of conditions.

The conditions range from providing affordable housing and highway measures, as well as satisfying biodiversity and drainage demands. Planning officers have marked the application 'minded to grant', and now Mr Rochelle has applied to Conwy Council for the discharge of these conditions, meaning work can begin on the development should councillors grant it.

Conwy Council?s planning committee are set to meet on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the planning application. The grazing field is 0.99 hectare - or about the size of two football pitches.

Seems a OTT request given the proposed use is non-residential.  Bit like the flood report they asked for in respect of a planning application for an extractor control 3 metres or so up the wall of the Palladium a few years back!

Cambrian, that reminds me of a customer, when I was still in business in CyD, who wanted to insure the contents of her home but was refused cover because her flat was in a postcode that was in a flood-risk area.

Fortunately, the insurer changed their mind when I pointed out the customers flat was on the third floor of a property on Nant-y-Gamar Road 😆

PLAN for 15 apartments in Old Colwyn were granted permission, despite concerns about lorries and cranes blocking residents? access on a busy road.

Mr A. Snook submitted a planning application to Conwy County Council to demolish 228 Abergele Road and build 15 new homes for those over 55. 

But plans to tear down the Victorian property and build the social housing development near a private driveway off Abergele Road were put on hold at August?s planning meeting.

Conwy councillors claimed a traffic survey carried out on Abergele Road during the quieter COVID lockdown might not be an accurate reflection of how busy the road is.

Developers know Conwy?s overworked planning enforcement team are struggling to carry out proper checks, a concerned councillor claimed

And Conwy?s cabinet member for housing admitted that budget restrictions meant planning enforcement officers could not monitor every development.

It then emerged that the team of two full-time and one part-time member of staff was dealing with 170 planning enforcement cases.

Consequently, developers know Conwy simply can?t cope and that many enforcement issues will go unchecked.

?The line manager for the small team is one of the planning enforcement officers who also has a caseload of 60 plus cases.

?There are 170 enforcement cases active now. My understanding is that developers and builders know there is no or very limited cross checking between planning permissions and building control; it is a disorganised and unrestricted situation.

The new development, in one of North Wales? most desirable locations, will offer a mix of two, three and four bed homes and shared equity.

24 properties will be accompanied by 46 parking spaces in a scheme created with sustainability at its heart.

NEIGHBOURS living near a Conwy Valley caravan park have slammed plans for holiday lodges at the site.

Peter Davidson, of Llandudno-based 3D Property Investment, has applied to Conwy County Council, seeking permission for 15 timber holiday lodges at Tyn Terfyn Caravan Site in Tal y Bont.

But neighbours living near the caravan park on Llanrwst Road oppose the plans on the 62-hectre site, claiming it will cause a sewage overload and parking problems on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park.
