HIGHLAND DRESS
« on: March 18, 2011, 07:11:36 pm »
I am looking for a good used or new Highland dress outfit.  Kilt, Jacket or waistcoat, hose, sporran, shoes etc. etc. that I can afford on my meagre State pension!   L0L

Anyone got one for sale or know where to get one without travelling to Scotland?  Tartan not important but Gordon prefered.  Chest size 46" +, waist 40".

Individual items acceptable if complete outfit not available.

PM with details please.

Would it be cheaper to hire one Yorkie?  Most wedding hire shops do that sort of thing.  Unless you were planning on wearing it again.  It would most likely cost in the region of £50.

It isn't for a wedding or even a one off do so buying is best!   I can get a complete set from eBay for about £250 but would prefer to see and try first.      $wales

I'll even have a Welsh set if Scottish not available.  The effect will be the same.

Thanx for the link but after having a look it is coming out much too expensive.   A lesser quality will probably suit me, and my pocket, a little better!     $thanx$

Are kilts and sporrans becoming 'required dress' down The Lodge these days?

I'm gonna find out by sitting on Upper Mostyn St and watching to see if the street is full of Jock McTavish lookalikes, in posh cars on a Tuesday night.

Not just Tuesdays, and normally about 4.00 p.m. onwards!  Don't know anyone who goes in Jocky Skirts but there must be one or two.  My use is for somewhere a little (lot) different.    _))*

The full Monty has now been ordered.  When it arrives I will try it all on and if the sight is not too disgusting, I may even post a picture.

That's something I am rather concerned about myself, can't afford to have my little bits showing!   L0L

Wee Deoch an Doris

There's a good old Scottish custom that has stood the test o'time,
It's a custom that's been carried out in every land and clime.
When brother Scots are gathered, it's aye the usual thing,
Just before we say good night, we fill our cups and sing...

Chorus
Just a wee deoch an doris, just a wee drop, that's all.
Just a wee deoch an doris afore ye gang awa.
There's a wee wifie waitin' in a wee but an ben.
If you can say, "It's a braw bricht moonlicht nicht",
Then yer a'richt, ye ken.

Now I like a man that is a man; a man that's straight and fair.
The kind of man that will and can, in all things do his share.
Och, I like a man a jolly man, the kind of man, you know,
The chap that slaps your back and says, "Jock, just before ye go..."

Chorus
