Tonight, May 5th 2020, the UK moves into the lead position just behind the US in mortality terms. Almost 30,000 deaths here attributable to Covid 19. That's higher than any other European country.

Coronavirus: What do the stats tell us in Wales?   ref BBC Wales

We seem to be bombarded with different measures, but what do they mean and how does Wales compare with other parts of the UK?

Here we try to answer some of the questions and explain what the different measures are.

The latest true coronavirus death toll in Wales and where people are dying
The ONS data show deaths are significantly higher than reported by Public Health Wales

Wales faced its grimmest seven days of the coronavirus pandemic in the week up to April 24 as 413 people died, new figures have revealed.

The previous week, leading up to April 17, saw 409 people lose their lives with Covid-19, according to the latest data from the Office for National Statistics.

Released on Tuesday, the ONS figures show that 1,376 people had died in Wales with the virus by April 24, more than a third higher than the numbers reported by Public Health Wales.

It means that on April 24, the number of deaths in Wales was actually 83% higher than reported. One of the main reasons for difference is that the ONS data includes deaths in care homes, hospices and at homes that are not included in the daily figures put out by the Welsh Government.

Just under 33,000 registered deaths in UK
