The Welsh Government would support police if they decided to fine more people for breaking lockdown rules, the health minister said.

Vaughan Gething said he was deeply frustrated by images showing people travelling in order to head out on walks despite the country being in "alert level four" - effectively a lockdown.

People flocked to beauty spots in North Wales - particularly Snowdonia - over the weekend to head out on walks, despite rules meaning people should only exercise close to home.

Speaking during a press conference on Monday, Mr Gething said: "The great majority of people are following the rules and are doing the right thing.
"Lots of these people are deeply frustrated to see people plainly breaking the rules.

"We have been in this position for the best part of 10 months now. I am deeply frustrated with people who are not doing the right thing and are finding a way to justify to themselves why they don't need to do the right thing."

He added: "If the police take a more enforcement-heavy approach with people who are plainly doing the wrong thing and knowingly doing so, they will have the full support of Welsh Government ministers in doing so, because all of us need to play our part."

As a follow up to Steve's post,  I came across this article  "North Wales Police says while many of the people turned away from Mount Snowdon on Saturday were from the North Wales area, some had travelled from the London and Milton Keynes areas to "walk their dogs and enjoy the snow."               &shake&

It's a shame that their cars couldn't be seized and they were made to walk home or at least to the Bangor Railway Station

It's time the talking stopped and enforcement began as the first course of action

How Wales' Alert Level 4 restrictions differ from England's Level 5 lockdown
Here's how restrictions in England compare to the rules in Wales

In Wales, recent images of people crowded at Welsh beauty spots left the Welsh Government and Welsh police forces reminding people that, under Alert Level 4, your exercise should start and finish from your home. (I have read and heard this statement a few time, without the mention of "on foot", it would appear quite a few listen to this version and not the following.)

The guidance advises against driving to exercise, and says: "In general this should not involve people driving to a location away from home for this purpose. No journeys of any significant distance should be taken, for example, just in order to exercise in the countryside or at beauty spots."

However, those with mobility issues are permitted to travel to a suitable location but "no long journeys should be undertaken unless absolutely necessary.

People have a right to refuse a vaccine,  that's called freedom of choice but would they then refuse NHS treatment if they caught Covid?
That idea of Spain's is quite interesting and I wonder if it could be applied to people from the UK  going on coach holidays in the UK or on holidays abroad.     As well as Travel Insurance and passports they could produce a certificate of vaccination to prove they would be safe and healthy to travel to the intended country

I noticed quite a few people who must have  mobility issues and they were parked at the West Shore car park just now watching the lovely sunset there.
Thank goodness for the West Shore web cam so I can see it too

"Some people are just ignorant of the rules or just don’t care about others because they've yet to see at first hand the consequences of catching the virus.

Human rights boss left North Wales holiday home on Christmas Day after being spoken to by cops

The lawyer has since apologised for making the trip, adding that she believed it was "allowed under the rules at that time".    It doesn't say much for her credibility as a lawyer

Welsh parents fined after their kids broke lockdown rules

North Wales Police were asked if any had fixed penalty notices had been handed out to parents as a result of their children's actions during the same period but the force refused to release any information.

The North Wales force also declined to comment about its stance on issuing fines to parents of children who have been observed flouting lockdown rules.

Two police cars got stuck in heavy snow while trying to rescue a 'stupid' motorist who skidded off the road after allegedly breaking lockdown rules by travelling to North Wales.

Police said the driver made the 20-mile journey from Ellesmere Port to Moel Famau Country Park, which straddles  Flintshire  and  Denbighshire and has seen heavy snowfall and temperatures as low as -1.

Officers said the traveler ignored the closure of the road and lost control of the car after skidding on ice, which caused the vehicle to veer off the road.

The incident caused "major issues" for North Wales Police officers who braved the freezing conditions to rescue the driver, which resulted in two of their cars getting stuck in the heavy snow.

The frustrated officers were left with no choice but to call out a local volunteer rescue group to assist them.

"Freezing conditions, putting my officers at risk in many ways and not just the cold .
"This is what we don't want. Breaking rules causes risks.

"One person's stupidity by ignoring rules and closed roads has now led to officers stuck in treacherous conditions.
"Sadly we now have to call out a local volunteer rescue group with 4 x 4 to assist.
Pressure on North Wales cops - and even endangering their families
"This is so frustrating and unnecessary and risking everyone."

Later, officers posted on Twitter: "One male in his 30s, who is lucky to be uninjured, has now been dropped at a taxi rank in Mold and will receive a hefty fine for his irresponsible actions.
"His car is badly damaged in the crash and remains unrecoverable. All officers safe. Thank you to NEWSAR for rescuing us."

Earlier this week, North Wales Live reported that officers patrolling the area found “many people blatantly acting irresponsibly” after breaking lockdown rules to visit the area.             ref DP

I heard on the TV this morning that the Welsh Government has closed all the car parks in Snowdonia and it's not before time too.
Hopefully that will deter some  people from breaking the Covid rules          &shake&
