An elderly couple have died following a house fire in Conwy county.
Emergency services were called to the blaze on Gannock Park West, Deganwy, at about 07:40 BST on Tuesday.
A man and woman were brought out of the building but died, while another woman managed to get out of the property before fire fighters arrived.
The fire was quickly brought under control but an investigation is now under way to establish the cause.
Insp Kelly Isaacs said: "Despite their [emergency services'] rapid deployment, they were sadly unable to prevent the deaths of the two elderly occupants."
North Wales Police has closed the road and urged people to avoid the area.    REF BBC

Elderly man in Rhos on Sea crash cut free from car
15:02, 6 SEP 2016 UPDATED 15:02, 6 SEP 2016    ref DP
BY TOM DAVIDSON
An elderly man had to be cut free from his car after a crash with a bus in Rhos on Sea.

The motorist has been taken to hospital with “potentially serious” injuries following the smash outside Coleg Llandrillo on Llandudno Road at about 1pm.
Firefighters had to cut the roof off the car to get the elderly man out, before he was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.

Passengers on the bus were checked over by ambulance crews at the scene but did not need hospital treatment.
Llandudno Road is currently closed in both directions while an investigation is conducted by North Wales Police.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at about 1.05pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a bus.

“A crew in an emergency ambulance and a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle attended and an elderly man was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd with potentially serious injuries.
“Four further patients were checked over at the scene, but did not require hospital treatment.”

Got mixed up with this heading for the dog groomers this afternoon. Trouble was the road wasn't closed then and all the motorists were having to turn round and retrace their steps. Chaos and amazing how many drivers couldn't manage a 3 point turn.
Mad, Bad and Dangerous to know.

A major shortage of train conductors has led to severe issues on Arriva Trains Wales services this morning.
The 11.44am service to Manchester Airport, which was due to start at Llandudno and call at Deganwy, Llandudno Junction, Colwyn Bay, Abergele, Rhyl, Prestatyn, Flint and Shotton, will now start from Chester.

Budget airline Monarch has denied rumours it is going bust after concerns among passengers over the weekend that their bookings may be at risk.
Speculation began to circulate on social media on Sunday afternoon that the airline was set to close.

But Monarch - which flies thousands of North Wales passengers from Manchester and Birminghan Airports - today released a statement saying flights and holiday were operating as normal.
It said: "Over the weekend, there has been negative speculation about Monarch’s financial health.

"Monarch is trading well and is expected to achieve an EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization ) of over £40m at the end of this financial year (October 2016).

"This is despite a difficult period for the holiday industry due to terrorist incidents, Brexit and the resulting devaluation of sterling.

From BBC: "The speculation around Monarch appears to have been sparked by the fact that the airline's CAA license is due to expire at the end of the week.

So Monarch is in negotiations with the regulator for the license to be renewed. That requires it to prove that it is financially robust.

Talks between the firm and the CAA, which went on late last night, are likely to be focusing on the "significant investment" that the firm says it expects to announce in the coming days.

It's understood that Monarch has been talking to possible investors including the Chinese conglomerate, HNA Group. If that comes to fruition it could open up new commercial possibilities for the airline. "
