The start of the 1914-18 Great War
« on: August 03, 2014, 10:32:04 pm »
Am I alone in having mixed feelings about todays events connected to the above. I use the word events because I certainly cannot use the word celebrations in this connection.
I am not at all sure what I feel. I certainly did not have any doubt about my feelings at the celebrations in 1995, 50 years after the end of the 39-45 war. Ive served in the RAF myself, been an honorary officer in the RAFA for a good few years. Lived through the 39-45 war as a youngster.
My doubts now are about the timing. Celebrate the ending of a war, of course. But making a fuss about the start of a war, I am not at all sure. Mike

Is it not about time we put all these wars on the back burner?  Life is about today and the future, not the past!

We can still have memories and respect for those who served without all the hoo haa that goes with it.

The argument being put forward by those commemorating the start of the war is that we can all learn about the horrors of war by remembering it. I'm not at all sure that holds any water.

We now have a is a monstrous Media Machine out there, churning out its rubbish 24/7 and being what it is, the beast requires constant feeding. Anything will do, just as long as we are shown a correspondent sending back a grossly inaccurate report from the scene, under the banner Breaking News, before any other Media source can report it, then all is well.

It’s now reached such a catastrophic state that the BBC doesn't actually cover or report the News any more, it's become a Left Wing talking shop that’s so politically correct it's afraid to employ any presenters how aren't from a Racial Minority background. How can such an eminent institution lose its way so completely?

To add insult to injury I now have to resort to getting an idea of what’s happening around the world from France Vingt-Quatre /Sept  (Sky Ch 513)
