The RAC has issued a warning to all drivers who fuel up their cars at supermarkets. The motoring organisation called out the "big four" grocers - Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, and Sainsbury?s - for not cutting prices quicker.

Last week the wholesale price of petrol dropped to the levels recorded in early May - roughly 131.75p per litre. However, at the time, the average fuel price in the UK was 167p per litre. As of August 8, the average price in the UK is 178.93p per litre.

According to The Mirror, the wholesale cost of petrol has fallen by 20p since early June, the RAC said. In comparison, UK retailers only dropped their pump prices by an average of 9p during July.

Celebrity chef Bryn joins big fundraising drive in a 1960s Mini

Celebrity chef Bryn Williams swapped the kitchen for some quality time with his dad and dozens of Morris Mini car enthusiasts.

The father and son duo brought two of the iconic British vehicles in a massive convoy which travelled from Colwyn Bay to Adventure Parc Snowdonia at Dolgarrog in the Conwy Valley.

The Minis in the Mountains run, the third to be staged by enthusiast group Mad Welsh Minis at Adventure Parc Snowdonia, was in aid of the Ty Gobaith/Hope House children?s hospices and passed by close to the charity?s North Wales facility at Ty?n y Groes near Conwy.

Drivers are still getting a ?raw deal? at the pumps, overpaying by around 9p a litre despite a record price drop last month, new analysis shows.

The RAC said average petrol prices sank to 169.8p per litre at the end of August, but should be around 161p due to current wholesale costs.

August saw average prices drop by 12.3p per litre, the largest monthly drop in records, dating back 22 years.

However, prices should still have to fall further.

RAC spokesman Rod Dennis said: ?Twelve pence a litre is a lot to come off prices in a single month so there?s no doubt things could be worse, but in reality drivers of petrol vehicles are still invariably getting a raw deal at the pumps.

There's going to be a lot of people looking for manned petrol stations.... just what we need at the moment  &shake&

Petrol stations across the UK are set to change the way that people pay when using pay-at-pump services. Supermarkets and petrol stations are set to introduce a new "hold charge" when people fill up their vehicles at petrol stations and pay at the pump.

To ensure people have the funds they need to make their purchase, retailers will temporarily charge a customer's debit or credit card up to ?100, then, after taking payment for fuel purchased, release any unspent funds.

The new payment scheme has already been trialled in a number of locations for the past few months, but now it will be rolled out to every petrol station in the UK. It comes as payment companies Mastercard and Visa have updated their policies, reports Wales Online.

Fuel boss slams 'big four' supermarkets as prices drop
Fuel prices have dropped for the first time since mid May as a spokesperson has claimed that UK Supermarkets "have refused to pass on savings"

Fuel prices at UK forecourts have fallen to the lowest level since mid-May as a fuel spokesman has slammed the UK's big supermarkets for 'dominating' sales.

Figures published by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy show a litre of petrol cost an average of 165.5p on Monday, while diesel was 181.1p per litre. They are the lowest prices since May 16, coinciding with a fall in wholesale costs due to a drop in oil prices.

?Average margins are now 19p a litre ? 12p more than the long-term average. Petrol should really be on sale for 153p a litre and diesel 175p. We hope the Competition and Markets Authority is watching what?s happening closely.?

The cost of charging an electric car has surged due to the rise in energy prices, prompting fears it will put off drivers from buying them, the RAC said.

It said electric car (EV) owners who use "rapid" public charging points were paying almost the same for electricity as they would for petrol per mile.

Charging the cars at home is cheaper, but domestic bills are also rising.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has been blamed for much of the recent rise in electricity and gas prices.

The RAC said its research showed the cost to charge an electric car on a pay-as-you-go basis at a publicly accessible rapid charger had increased by 42% since May to an average of 63.29p per kWh.

The hike in price means drivers who only use the public network to charge vehicles pay around 18p per mile for electricity.

That is just 1p less per mile for a petrol car, based on someone driving at an average of 40 miles to the gallon, the motoring group said.

The cost per mile for charging electric vehicles at home is around 9p per mile for the average-sized car. The BBC has been told most EV drivers charge at home overnight.

"For those that have already made the switch to an electric car or are thinking of doing so, it remains the case that charging away from home costs less than refuelling a petrol or diesel car, but these figures show that the gap is narrowing as a result of the enormous increases in the cost of electricity," RAC spokesman Simon Williams said.

QUOTE ... "That is just 1p less per mile for a petrol car, based on someone driving at an average of 40 miles to the gallon, the motoring group said."

I've kept full records since my car left the showroom 3 1/2 years ago ... it has covered just over 22k at an average of just under 31.5mpg, and the fuel cost works out at 19.7p ... and I am using Shell V-Power which costs more than the standard stuff!

Unfortunately, whereas some electric car owners can take advantage of free charging in some places, I cannot expect to be given a can of fuel at the same venues!
