I have just read this, and I am not at all sure I fully understand, best keep off Twitter I say.

What Are Hashtags ("#" Symbols)?
Definition: The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. It was created organically by Twitter users as a way to categorize messages.
Using hashtags to categorize Tweets by keyword:

People use the hashtag symbol # before a relevant keyword or phrase (no spaces) in their Tweet to categorize those Tweets and help them show more easily in Twitter Search.
Clicking on a hashtagged word in any message shows you all other Tweets marked with that keyword.
Hashtags can occur anywhere in the Tweet – at the beginning, middle, or end.
Hashtagged words that become very popular are often Trending Topics.
Example: In the Tweet below, @eddie included the hashtag #FF. Users created this as shorthand for "Follow Friday," a weekly tradition where users recommend people that others should follow on Twitter. You'll see this on Fridays.

Don't blame you!  I find both Twitter and Facebook most peculiar and much of it complete nonsense.  Everyone seems to be talking to themselves or making inane remarks or agreeing with others.  At the worst they "like" all sorts of things.  Everything is punctuated with ########'s and @@@@@@@'s.

We need an anti- twitter/Facebook  campaign!    ZXZ

I occasionally use Facebook because it seems to be the communication choice of my kids and relatives.  I also have  a few "select" local people as friends.

As for twitter I have yet to really understand its purpose, but I have been known to be a silly billy and actually twitted!  :D.    Give me a good old Blog any day.

I can confirm that tw-at is a naughty word.
I have consulted my Aunt Maude and several local vicars on reaching this conclusion.

Other naughty words include, 'Bottom,  Flange and Chuff'

Perhaps thou hast led a sheltered life.  Never watched Mrs Brown's Boys?

Tw_at is in common usage and even in the Oxford English Dictionary!  There is even a #Tw_at on Twitter!    L0L

I must be getting prudish as I get older, as I find Mrs Browns boys gratuitous and distasteful.

However, my little old Mum finds it hilarious, as does Mrs Fester.

Erindoors likes Mrs Brown's Boys, I don't mind it, it makes me laugh at times, but I find One Foot in the Grave much funnier, sadly there are no sit coms as well written these days!

Most swear words are in the Oxford English Dictionary; however, we don't want language like that on the Forum where children can see it. As for being in common usage, I don't know about that? Personally, I cant think of any friends of mine that use that particular term.

When you need to type an offensive word you should leave out at least one letter and replace it with something like an asterisk.
What you don't do is type the full word and then stick a dash in there, pointless really.
If you need to know what tw*t means, Google it and you might be surprised because some people including myself find the use of it way over the top and I class myself as very broadminded.
