Lake District

I have just read Hugo's latest walking post and he says what a difference seven days make.
Well for us this weekend what a difference two days make.
We have been to the Lake District this weekend. These photos were taken yesterday. Today it was raining so hard we decided to leave after breakfast and head home.
We were staying at Armathwaite Hall near Bassenthwaite Lake. We hadn't been there since our honeymoon in 1984!
The old hall hadn't changed but they have built a massive new spa complex in the grounds.
Yesterday we went to Derwentwater and took a ride on the lovely passenger boat that you can see in the photo. You can get on and off wherever you like on the lake.
We got off at one stop and walked around on a lovely path to the Lodore Falls hotel where we had sandwiches and a drink and then took the boat back to Keswick.

Apart from the water and scenery, the Lake District has some great driving roads.  My Car Club's Annual Megameet was in the Lakes this year, and it was a great week-end of fabulous driving.  I also say the same about North Wales where it was held two years ago!

Beautiful photos - and there are truly some great driving roads in the Lake District. Last year we hired a car and made a tour stopping off at Windermere, Grasmere,Buttermere and on to Cockermouth. We had a wonderful time and actually managed to see some sun. We're planning another trip towards the end of the summer and so will look forward to those wonderful roads and beautiful landscapes once more.

Can't help you there Wrex as I've only ever had one day trip to the lakes, but hope that you enjoy your stay there,

Hollins is back from a weekend with mum to the Lake District. We stayed at a hotel on Ullswater. It is very unspoilt around there and yet it is only 10-15 mins drive from junction 40 of the M6.
On Sunday we took a trip around the lake on one of the Ullswater Steamers. It was a lovely way to appreciate the scenery. The boat was called the Western Belle.  There were photos of her trip on the back of a lorry coming up the M6 at night. It was beautifully restored. The last photo is one of the other boats in the fleet.

Built to the order of the Millbrook Steamboat & Trading Co. Ltd in 1935, the Western Belle immediately established herself as the company's new flagship and for nearly fifty years was the firm favourite on Tamar and Yealm excursions. In 2007 she was purchased from Chris Cruises where she had worked for a time on the River Thames. She was completely refurbished by Ullswater 'Steamers', and re-launched onto her new home in early July 2010.

Tellytubby has been in Keswick this week enjoying good weather beautiful scenery and he has had some good walks too.    Here are some of the photos he sent to me
