ROOFING CONTRACTOR WANTED
« on: March 28, 2012, 10:11:54 am »
Can anyone recommend a reliable person in the Conwy area to do some roofing work please?  I spent almost £1000 last year on someone from Anglesey, most of the mortar has now washed out, caused I imagine by insufficient cement in the mix, so I want someone who will do a good job that will last.

There must be someone on the forum who has had some roofing work done and can recommend a roofing contractor, but perhaps the lack of response tells it's own story. WWW

Martin, about 15 years ago, I used the services of M&N Roofing Services, 47 St Georges Drive, Deganwy LL31 9PP, Telephone number: 01492 584791, to carry out a major re-roofing project on our home.

Mike and Nathan are brothers and are also local lads.

FYI, I have not had a problem since.

Martin, I am confused at your response, so quickly after raising the initial question.

If you take a look on the 'recommend a local business' thread, you can clearly see that The Medz recommends RHI, who also replied to you last night.

Confusing, why?  I asked for people who had experience of a roofing contractor doing work for them personally.  When I put my second comment "There must be someone on the forum who has had some roofing work done and can recommend a roofing contractor" nobody had replied, that is, other than a roofing company.  I am not looking for a company to recommend themselves, but for a customer of a roofing company to recommend a contractor who has done good work for them.  The reason I am very wary about employing someone is that last year I spent out almost £1000 to a roofer who did an appalling job.   Part of the work was to re-point two valley's, which he did, however, just 8 months later, almost all of the mortar has now washed out, blocking our drains in the process.  I now know that the work I was charged so much for, should have cost no more than £350.  So you see why I am not interested in a company blowing their own trumpet. Additionally, I was not aware of the "Recommend a local business" thread,  however, having it brought to my attention by you, I seem to have a vague recollection of it, but as I only visit the forum very infrequently, (normally when I went to sell or give away something in the classifieds), I had forgotten about it.   Finally even if I had remembered the thread, I don't know "The Medz" from Adam, but you appear to have taken the hump over me not taking any notice of him.  Most odd!

Sorry Martin my fault. Having seen your request for info last night and also seen RHI's response I should have qualified it with a comment from my own personal experience but didn't.

I'm no expert in matters of DYI and roofing etc only a customer, in the last two and a half years since moving here, of companies that have and have not produced the goods for me and my personal set of needs. I've  used the "Recommend a company" thread a couple of times not only for roofing matters but others as well  because I know from personal experience how difficult it is, moving into an area, and only having the Thompsons Local and Yellow Pages as a guide.

Good Luck. I really do hope you get the roof sorted.

Martin, you may not know The Medz from Adam.... but I dare say that applies to 99% of the members of this Forum, so I'm not sure what you were expecting to achieve if you only accept recommendations from those whom you know.

Nevertheless, I am saddened that you were ripped off by the Anglesey roofers, I have bitter experience of being ripped off by builders in 2011, and I wish it was for only £1000!

No, what I was actually confused about was that you only waited a day for members to reply to your question.
The majority of members are similar to yourself, and they don't look at the forum every day.

Give it chance, you will get some decent replies.

Sorry Fester, I thought you were having a go at me.  Crossed lines I suppose, as for me just waiting a day, I am very impatient, when I decide to do something I start it immediately, I have been know to knock a wall down, when, I stared the day, I had not even thought of it.  Do it now!!!

Hi Martin,
Just thought we would let you and other members of this forum know that we are a local firm and would be happy to have given you or anybody else a quote on any work they may have needed doing. I'm sorry if it seemed like I was blowing my own trumpet, that's not what I was trying to do.

I have now found a good roofing contractor to make good the damage done by the previous cowboy. So thank you all for your input, it would have been nice had I not been attacked, but that is one of the reasons why I do not post on this forum any more, apart that is, from the classified section.

I could see no attack from anyone?  On some other forums I've been on you would certainly know if you had been attacked!  :)
