ASDA has completed the acquisition of 132 grocery retail sites, with attached petrol stations, from Co-op with three sites in North Wales part of the deal.

The acquisition was initially announced at the end of August for a cash value of ?438m (total value of ?600million with lease liabilities), and brings 129 existing sites and three development sites into the Asda fold.

The North Wales sites affected are at Coedpoeth near Wrexham, Old Colwyn, and at Rhuddlan.

Putting salt in your milk among tips to make your weekly shop last longer
Giving your vegetables a bath can also increase their life span, according to experts

With the majority of people struggling during the cost of living crisis, it's natural that most of us are worried about how we can make our money go further. Food inflation soared to a record 11.6 per cent in October as even basics such as tea bags, milk and sugar were all subject to significant price rises.

Figures show that overall shop prices are now 6.6 per cent higher than they were this time last year. What's worse is that the average UK household throws away ?800 worth of food each year.

This equates to roughly ?66 a month. For many, knowing how to make fresh food last longer has become essential, and with less food
waste there is ultimately less cost.

Family 1 recipe meal plan
This budget-friendly meal plan covers a week's worth of dinners for four adults, coming in at under ?28 in total. All the recipes are flexible too, so you can swap in different ingredients to make the most out of leftovers and supermarket deals, as well as appease picky eaters.

How we costed our recipes
We have stuck to a strict ingredient budget of 7 per person for the week, which averages out at just under 1 per portion.

Weve based most of our costs on the smallest available pack size, meaning even if you don?t use a whole jar or packet, the entire cost is still included in the budget.

Meanwhile, store cupboard items like oil, salt, pasta and rice are costed according to the quantity you use, as they tend to have long shelf lives or be purchased regularly as part of a standard family shop.

A former Marks and Spencer retail site in Llandudno is set to become a discount hot tub outlet in early 2023. Retail giant M&S closed the site on Mostyn Street in March this year, after 80 years of trading.

After the major retailer relocated to Parc Llandudno, local residents campaigned for the site to be put to good use which included a Levelling-Up bid to UK Government calling for funds to help create a food hall, leisure and business hub. And after months of being unused, it looks as if customers will soon return to the site.

Hot tub specialists, UK Leisure Living, from Mochdre ...  https://www.ukleisureliving.co.uk/   have confirmed plans to move into the site in the New Year in a bid to bring "extra life to the Llandudno high street." It is understood the retailer will move into the site, owned by Mostyn Estates, in early 2023 on a temporary basis, teasing that there are "big plans" for the site in the long-term.

UK Leisure Living said it plans to open an outlet at the former Marks and Spencer food hall on January 16, "for a limited time until stock is cleared." The company said it plans to take over the downstairs area of the former food hall, offering huge discounts on their products.

Exactly how much everyday food items have gone up in price in the last 12 months
The cost of low-fat milk has increased by 47.9%, pasta and couscous by 34%, and olive oil by 28.3%

Food and drink inflation surged to the highest on record again last month, with Britons witnessing mammoth increases for everyday items. The cost of food and non-alcoholic drinks rocketed 16.2% in October, against the same month last year, but some products have jumped by even more.

The rise in the cost of groceries has been accelerated by the war in Ukraine, which has pushed up the cost of fertiliser and animal feed due to the impact on grain supply from the region. Global meat and dairy prices have jumped as a result, while the knock-on effect to oil production in the regions has also hit the price of sunflower oil and other fats.

Craig-y-Don businesses to stay open late on Thursdays before Christmas....................... +}}{--

A NUMBER of businesses in Craig-y-Don are staying open for late night shopping on each Thursday before Christmas, which started yesterday evening (November 17).

They will be staying open until 8pm on November 24, and December 1, 8, 15 and 22.

Shops staying open include:

? Coffee V.
? Ballooning Marvellous.
? The Quilting Bee.
? Salon 81.
? Salon Twenty Two.
? Feet First.
? Give A Little Gift Shop.
? Hush.
? Darcey?s Interiors (main organiser).
? Casa Reme Delicatessen.
? Ascot Taprooms.

The Quilting Bee will also be hosting Thursday night workshops for customers to try their hand at sewing themselves.

Rhian Hastings, of Coffee V, said her caf? will also host a ?very special visitor?, with a white beard and dressed in a red suit, each Thursday from December 1.

She also credited Sam Price, co-owner of Darcey?s Interiors, with spearheading the idea, and hopes it will boost Craig-y-Don?s trade and popularity.

?As much as we?re a part of Llandudno, we kind of get forgotten about a little ? the amount of times customers have said to me in the last eight years: ?How long have you been here?? or ?We didn?t know you were here??

?There?s no signage on the prom to say there are shops or anything, so that?s something we?ve tried to pursue, and we?d like a Christmas tree in Craig-y-Don.

?We?re just trying to be available, and see if an evening is any more accessible for people. There are lots of little independent businesses who all need supporting.

?Business is ticking over; I?m v lucky that I?ve got lots of locals and regulars who support us, but I think these next couple of months, with Christmas looming and the cost of living rising, are definitely going to be telling.?

Rhian normally opens Coffee V at 8.45am and shuts at 3pm, meaning she will be doing an additional five hours of business for the next few Thursdays.

Their ?special visitor?, meanwhile, will return to the caf? every Thursday from 4.30-8pm from December 1, and for ?5 per child, children can explain to him whether they?re on the naughty or nice list this Christmas.

She added: ?It?s all going be quite chilled and informal, with things like gingerbread men, Christmas cakes, and Christmas coffee.

?Hopefully, it?ll be worthwhile and will maybe get different people coming into Craig-y-Don, which would be lovely, because I don?t think people realise how much is in Craig-y-Don these days.?

Asda, Morrisons, Lidl and Aldi

Coca-Cola is recalling a limited number of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar multipacks with Christmas cardboard because some packs have been wrongly boxed and may contain Coca-Cola Original taste. This makes the product a potential risk to consumers who need to manage their sugar intake.

Three stories this morning..................

Poundland has revealed the opening date for a new store at a former M&S unit in Llandudno. The chain closed the satellite store in February 2018 and also left their main high street site this year to relocate to Parc Llandudno.
Now the discount brand says it will reopen on their 'Super Saturday' along with seven other UK stores. The date planned is December 10.

IT IS A CHANGE that is bound to delight customers - two 'card cand cash' self-service tills have arrived at Marks & Spencer in Llandudno.
Since the new store opened at Parc Llandudno earlier this year, readers have voiced their disappointment that the self-service machines only take card.
M&S Llandudno store manager, said: "On Wednesday (November 23) of this week, we removed two card-only self-serve tills and replaced them with two card and cash self-serve tills.

Two major UK retailers will open new large stores in Llandudno over the next two days. The first opening will take place today when The Range launches on Parc Llandudno.

The brand is taking on the former Outfit store that closed over the pandemic when Arcadia Group collapsed into administration. They have been working on the unit for several months - adding a mezzanine floor, and garden centre to the side of the store.

The new store has created a total of 48 new jobs and brought the shopping park up to near capacity. It followed a difficult period over Covid when Debenhams, Outfit and Monsoon all closed. M&S is now in the old Debenhams store while Regatta and Craghoppers took on the former Monsoon unit.

The must-have Christmas toys from 1970 to 2000 and how much they cost then and now
From the Rubik's Cube to the Nintendo Game Boy, these were the most popular Christmas toys each year from 1970 to 2000

You knew the festive season was around the corner when your parents asked you to write your Christmas wish list for Santa.

Each year there are a handful of toys that North Wales children are desperate to get their hands on. It's safe to say the types of toys and prices have changed significantly over the years, but some items have remained iconic, including Star Wars figures, the Rubik?s Cube and Nintendos.

Back in 2018, MusicMagpie compiled a list of the most popular toys that were gifted at Christmas and how much they cost. North Wales Live has collated some of the must-have toys from each year between 1970 and 2000.
