Gale-force winds during a summer storm caused tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage at Conwy harbour. According to a harbour master’s report, wind gusts of 64 knots were predicted on Thursday, August 22 by Capel Curig weather station before Storm Lilian hit the next day.

The station also predicted one of the highest tides of 2024 of 8.9m, leading to emergency staff being called to deal with the crisis. The winds caused serious damage during the busy summer season in a harbour packed with boats as several sections of pontoons were sunk.

Clogau has closed one of its high street stores. The jewellery maker, which specialises in Welsh gold, has expanded its store footprint in recent years - adding shops in Wales and over the border.

But the Bodelwyddan based business has taken the decision to close the store on Conwy High Street. They blamed the UK cost of living crisis and the impact it was having on retailing.

Bakery giant Greggs is lined up to take on a former tapas restaurant in Conwy according to sources. The Midland announced the closure of its Castle Street tapas bar in February - blaming the cost of living crisis.

The site has been on the market with St Davids Commercial. North Wales Live has been told that Greggs is close to a deal to come to the location.

Update.......

LAST WEEK it emerged that Greggs was being lined up to replace a closed tapas bar and restaurant in Conwy, and readers gave their views on the potential move.................

Several residents commenting that the chain was “not needed” in the town, with the town having “plenty of lovely local bakeries”.

Adam Melia said he felt the business would “make a fortune”, but this would be at the expense of independent businesses.

Helen Siertsema called the news “dreadful”, while Linda Wild said “it’s a disgrace”

The North Wales county where firefighters have suffered the highest number of assaults
Verbal and physical assaults have dropped off across the region in 2024, but there have been more than 250 incidents over a five year period across Wales

When broken down by region, attacks were more frequent in Conwy than anywhere else in North Wales. The area had 15 cases followed by Wrexham (13) and Flintshire (ten). There were nine cases in Denbighshire, five in Anglesey and another three in Gwynedd.

This council seem to have a lot of spare cash to use before the end of the financial year....

A notice from Conwy county council said: "A contractor, MWT Civil Engineering Ltd, has been appointed to carry out repairs to the car park surface, and repaint to a revised layout. We are aiming for works to begin in early March and take 1-2 weeks.

Conwy love using this company....did the paddling pool.....over ran, doing the flood defence on Westshore....6mths in and still doing it, also doing the flood defence by the lifeboat station...not finished yet.

So I don't hold out much hope for a quick carpark job maybe they could finish one job before they start the next council job.

A BOAT that was left stranded in Conwy harbour following a storm this winter was finally lifted to safety last week.

The light vessel was left leaning on its side in muddy depths after coming adrift from its moorings during Storm Darragh in December.

The boat had sustained a hole to its hull before resting on the sandbank.

Lying in situ since, an eyewitness reported seeing the boat being pulled up and towed by a floating crane last week - three months after the boat was left stranded.

The harbour master confirmed the boat's owner was issued with a wreck removal order, leading to its salvage.

The boat will undergo repairs at Deganwy Marina...............

From the Liverpool Echo...........

Just over an hour's drive from Liverpool, there lies a magical town that will transport you back in time. Conwy is a favourite among tourists visiting Wales and it's no surprise when you witness the stunning estuary and marina with your own eyes.

It is a location where you could easily spend all weekend soaking up all the historic sights and exploring the gorgeous scenery and cobbled streets. I had the pleasure of exploring the cobbled market town on a Sunday, courtesy of the sightseeing company Busy Bus, as part of their North Wales Adventure Tour................ https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/whats-on/whats-on-news/walled-market-town-stuck-time-31279496?IYA-reg=49560bcd-5a9c-47f0-8fc5-ba2e71710589
