New chemist to open at former Conwy bookies with retail source saying existing pharmacies to merge
Rowlands Pharmacy currently has two chemist branches in the historic town

A new large chemist is to open in Conwy with a retail source saying two existing pharmacies are set to merge.

Rowlands Pharmacy currently has two chemist stores in the historic town of Conwy - one on High Street and the other on Castle Street.

But it is understood they have signed up to take on the former BetFred site on Castle Street.

Going from strength to strength .............bit of good news for a change.

A CONWY butcher has clinched a deal that will put their award-winning bangers on the shelves of over 500 Co-op stores across England and Wales.

Edwards of Conwy's popular six-pack sausages will be on sale at Co-op supermarkets across the Midlands and North West of England as well as in 130 stores in Wales and the border counties.

Edwards of Conwy have invested £2.6 million in a newly expanded production facility on the Morfa Conwy Business Park, in Conwy, which will soon be producing an extra 14,000 sausages a week to cope with the increased demand.

SANTA and his sleigh will be making a return to Conwy this year.

Routes and timings will be published soon. Once released, up to date information on the route and timings can be found at www.conwytowncouncil.gov.uk/en/events/christmas

A spokesperson from Conwy Town Council said: "Last year you may have only heard the sound of distant sleigh bells as Santa made a few surprise appearances in Conwy, Deganwy and Llandudno Junction. As you know this was to make sure that all the children and their families were safe to enjoy a quiet Christmas.

"This year Santa is back, and Conwy Town Council are very happy to announce that the Grinch won’t be stealing Christmas again this year.

"Santa will be back to visit on his sleigh, available to everyone so you can plan ahead to come and see him, wave and cheer.

"As we all know, it is more important than ever to support our local businesses, so again this year Christmas music will be played in the town centres on selected dates during December to accompany your Christmas shopping and make your experience more festive."

On Christmas Eve there will be music from 5.30pm and carols in the square from 6pm.

"Santa and his elf will be popping in to wave to us from the castle walls at 6.45pm," the spokesperson added.

There will also be a firework display from the castle at 7pm.

Visitors and residents and advised not to bring dogs to the event.

A Boxing Day dip is planned for Deganwy promenade [and attended by the RNLI], starting at 10.30am.

Conwy Police Station could be closed and ‘relocated’ to a ‘top flat’ above the town’s Tourist Information Centre.

North Wales Police have assured Conwy’s planning officers that barred windows will be hidden behind stained glass or film.

The Police Station on Lancaster Square, Conwy, has operated as a reduced service for over a decade but maintains a prominent spot in the town centre.

But North Wales Police has applied for a change of use for the space in the Mauriau Building on Rose Hill Street for the new station. The Mauriau Building is council-owned and includes vacant council space and an empty flat.

A POPULAR event featuring a spectacular torch lit procession will return to Conwy this December.

The Annual Medieval Torch Lit Parade will be back in the walled town on Saturday, December 11. The parade - featuring dozen of armoured knights and ‘their ladies’, will start at 5.45pm.

The event will also feature street entertainers, musicians, choirs, morris dancers, drummers plus sword fighting on Lancaster Square.

SADLY Santa is no longer returning to the walled town of Conwy on Christmas Eve.

The event was set to involve music from 5.30pm and carols in the square from 6pm. Santa and his elf were expected to wave from the castle walls at 6.45pm.

Cllr Collette Ryan, mayor of Conwy, said: "It is with a very heavy heart that as Mayor of Conwy Town Council, I have to inform you all that this year’s Christmas Eve event has had to be cancelled. This is due to the new strain of Covid that is tearing through our communities.

"Myself, fellow councillors, the staff team and the safety advisor worked long into the night yesterday discussing how the event could possibly continue but there were too many obstacles stacked against us.

"The health of our community must come first."

There are far to many eateries in Conwy as it is & hope CCBC Planning Officers question whether changing a much needed retail shop into yet another cafe is a good idea. Conwy Town Council have voted against it, but will they be listened to?  &shake&

Perhaps Conwy Town Council should have studied the application a little closer? The application is to convert a disused outbuilding and courtyard at the rear of the shop into a cafe. The shop itself is to remain a shop.

A town council says it has not published its decisions on its website because it has been busy. Under section 55 of The Local Government (Wales) Act, community councils must publish the minutes of their decisions on their websites, including any relevant documents referred to.

But Conwy Town Council says it has been too short-staffed to be able to keep the site updated. Now a former councillor has slammed the council for not operating in a democratic and transparent manner.

Conwy Town Council’s website is currently missing nearly four months of council minutes. "This is vitally important. What use are minutes if they are missing months and months?" said Terry.

"People should be kept abreast of information and decisions as they are coming in. These events are important to the local community. These are decisions made by elected representatives of the community.

"Everything they are doing should be open and transparent. That is not happening at the moment."
