Many Happy Returns of the day to Conwy Town Council's Mayor, Councillor Mrs Ruth Parker whose birthday it is today. I understand as Mayor she is also entitled to the title of Constable of Conwy Castle and that it is traditional to fly a flag on the castle on the Mayor's birthday. The flag was fluttering merrily when I passed earlier.

Parisellas are unfortunately well used to vandalism. They operate the cafe in the Happy Valley. Enough said.

Just a chap leaving the pub after having had a few too many Sherbets.    Z**

Was the ice cream parlour the only business affected?

Things are looking up in Lancaster Square. Alfredo Restaurant is a hive of activity, having a complete revamp. Activity also going on in the recently closed Cafe Culture. If the rumours are true and it is the owners of  Home Cooking, hope the food is as good as Llandudno.

Don't forget the new tapas bar in the former HSBC.

I also notice Mr Blanchard has applied for an alcohol licence next door.

The new cafe replacing Cafe Culture in Conwy has opened as 2 The Square. It looks very promising,  bright clean decor with a reasonably priced menu and an interesting Gruffalo menu for children. Wishing them  ££$ for the future.

Yes, it's the same owners as 'Home Cookin' in Llandudno,  they generally do a very good job of things.

Aberconwy Park & Spa has been sold. Hope the new owners run it as well as The Houghton's.

The new 'Tapas Bar' is now open in the old HSBC premises now known as Bank of Conwy. It looked fairly busy on Thursday and Friday nights as I went by.

Very good news! Crucial that Conwy maintains its ratio of independently-owned businesses to chain cafes or shops. Not to say chain stores are bad in and of themselves (can remember the Woolies being fairly popular, and the Spar which replaced it is just as useful) as they can be a good draw and helpful convenience. BUT we can't risk towns becoming identikit; not even somewhere like Conwy, with the charms of its castle and attractive immediate environs, is completely protected from just becoming like most other towns in the UK.

Can't remember if I have posted this before, it's the website of the people restoring the Black Lion at 11 Castle Street:

Conwy will be invaded for the fourth year in a row by pirates, buccaneers and salty sea dogs over the weekend of June 20 and 21.

They will be setting up camp outside the town walls on the quay and everyone is invited to join in for a weekend of free family-friendly entertainment.
