CONWY County Borough Council has confirmed that its former premises, the Civic Offices in Colwyn Bay, have been sold to a local business.

Conwy County Borough Council vacated the site (and a number of other locations) when staff moved to Coed Pella in December 2018.

Part of the Civic site was sold in August 2021 for a housing development, whilst the Civic building itself was put on the market at the end of 2021 after an earlier sale fell through.

The Council has now sold the building and its curtilage to local business Parc Eirias Hotel Ltd.

Leader, Cllr Charlie McCoubrey, said: ?When the sale was discussed earlier this year, councillors were clear that any proposals should enhance the site and be an asset to the regeneration of Colwyn Bay, and they were supportive of this site becoming a hotel.

?As such, we?re pleased that the buyers know the local market and will bring their experience to this project, we wish them every success and look forward to seeing their proposals come to fruition.? ref pioneer

Another update.......

Colwyn Bay's former Civic Centre buildings sold to owner of successful Llandudno hotel
The old Civic Offices have been sold to Parc Eirias Hotel Ltd after closing back in 2018

That site went on the market with Colliers for ?2m earlier this year. It is hoped the move to buy the building by Mr Robbins, and fellow director Robert Andrew Roberts, could signal the return of a quality hotel in the seaside town that was once a tourism hotspot.

The owners of Colwyn Bay?s derelict and boarded-up Civic Centre plan to spend millions to turn the iconic grade-two listed building into a four-star hotel.

Parc Eirias Hotel Ltd says, once it is refurbished, the building will accommodate 120-130 guests, capitalising on Colwyn Bay?s regeneration,  array of exciting pop concerts, and stunning beach.

Conwy County Council has refused to reveal how much it made from the building?s sale, but Parc Eirias Hotel Ltd says they will spend between 2-3m to renovate the building, creating 15-25 new jobs.

The company also run the award-winning Lawton & Lauriston Court Hotel in Llandudno, one of the company?s three directors, together with husband Ian and Hannah Lawton-Jones.

We are aiming for a four-star hotel. We wont look at just one sector of the market. We will try and cater for everybody.  At our hotel in Llandudno, yes, it does attract an older generation, but we also have an awful lot of families staying with us. So we are a good all-rounder team. We can make this really special and family orientated.?

The Civic Centre has four and a half acres of land on its grounds with around 100 car parking spaces. The new hotel could also have on-site beauticians, treatment rooms, and a bar.

Although a planning application is yet to be submitted, it is unlikely to be refused, given the councils involvement with the sale.

But Carol-Lynn revealed whilst it was the building itself that tempted the company to buy, Colwyn Bays regeneration also helped seal the deal, citing Parc Eirias regular pop concerts and sporting events as major draws.

Weve been looking at this building for four years, said Carol-Lynn.
It was mainly the building being so iconic that drew us in; however, in those years weve been waiting for the building to come back to us, Colwyn Bay has really been showing signs of regeneration.

The beach is beautiful. The pier is wonderful, and with the water-sports centre with Bryn Williams? restaurant at Porth Eirias, Colwyn Bay is on the way up.

FUTURE funding cuts made by Conwy could lead to CCTV cameras being removed from Colwyn Bay, warned a concerned councillor.

North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Andy Dunbobbin gave a presentation to Conwy County Council?s crime and disorder economy and place scrutiny committee at Bodlondeb.

Mr Dunbobbin took questions from committee members, including Colwyn Bay councillor Chris Hughes, but warned the council and police faced ?austerity on steroids?.

Cllr Hughes said he feared a partnership between North Wales Police and Conwy could be threatened by council cuts.

Two North Wales banks on full list of branches HSBC will close next year
The banking giant said the closures will start from from April next year

They said the number of customers using them has fallen significantly since the pandemic. There are 12 sites in Wales on the list - including two in North Wales.

Colwyn Bay is one of those - with the closure another blow to the town, which already has around one in five town centre units empty. The nearest branch for customers will be Llandudno.

CHRISTMAS events will be held for one day only in both Bangor and Colwyn Bay later this month.

Firstly, on Sunday (December 4), Bangor city centre will turn into a winter wonderland with the Bangor Christmas Cracker, taking place from 10am-5pm

On Saturday, December 10, another Christmas artisan market will take place in Colwyn Bay, on Station and Seaview Road from 10-4pm.

There will be plenty of Christmas shopping to be had, with two large streets of stalls and lots of added festive fun.

This will include a photo with Father Christmas, a brass and silver band, a carol-singing rock choir, face-painting, childrens carousel rides, live music, mulled wine, hot street food and street entertainment for big and little ones.

Both markets have been organised by The Artisan Market Company, based in Conwy.    ref pioneet

Mochdre vets are set to open an accessible space where people and dogs will be able to access free facilities to help with the cost of living crisis. The aptly named welcome room will offer a warm space with free food for people and animals, cooking facilities and the offer of a warm shower.

Anyone who wishes to use the space will be able to as the surgery says that no one has to "justify their struggles". The vets will be welcoming any donations from anyone who wishes to aid with this endeavour to keep both people and animals safe over the difficult winter period.

Currently the space acts as an out of hours facility overnight, but was staying empty during the day. As such it was decided the area would be opened during the day to be accessible for those that needed it.

I had just come back from being out all day when I saw the remains of the vehicle.    It was a nice looking sporty Mercedes car but now it's a right off.
Apparently the road was closed off for a while and there was a lot of disruption to traffic in the area.   I don't think anyone was injured thank goodness

We were due to meet a friend in Llandudno this morning but there was a heavy fall of hail and everywhere was white so we called it off.
I started to clear our drive but gave up when it started sleeting again.
Mrs H  took the dog out for a walk but soon returned as the road was like an ice rink as it hadn't been gritted
The Sun has started to come out now so I'm hoping that all the white stuff will melt and save me the job of clearing it

WORK has begun building a new stand at the stadium of Colwyn Bay Football Club.

The 4 Crosses Construction Arena (Llanelian Road) will boast a 1,000-seater stand once the work is completed.

Weather permitting, it is expected to take between 16 and 18 weeks to complete the project.

In the last week, the two existing covered terraced stands on the bank side of the ground, which were constructed in the late 1980s, were dismantled.

CONWY County Councillors have expressed their concern for the town after HSBC made the decision to close its branch in the town next year.

HSBC recently announced the closure of 114 branches across the UK, with the Colwyn Bay branch set to close on August 15.

The decision has been met with criticism from Conwy?s Liberal Democrat Councillors Rhiw Trevor Scott, John Roberts and Simon Croft, who have helped launch a petition to urge the banking giant to reconsider.

They stated that given the bank?s profits of more than ?2.8billion in the last quarter, they can afford to support customers with in-person services.

CONWY County Borough Council has granted the lease for the Longmans Building at 7 Abergele Road to Ink. Gallery Ltd, an arts collective.

The Grade II-listed building was designed by the renowned local architect Sidney Colwyn Foulkes and had been vacant for a number of years, before funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Welsh Government, was secured by Conwy County Borough Council to renovate the building.

The wreck of the car is still there today and judging by what I could see the road beneath it may need repairing following the fire, thank goodness no one was injured by the fire
