Although I've only been taking photos for about 5 years or so, I've noticed that changes with things like shops are taking place so rapidly that many of my early photos are of places that no longer exist. I'm going to feature a few on this thread....
From 2007, the short-lived 'Lime' shop on Mostyn Street, now 'Next Clearance':
-
Actually old bean, it hasn't gone..
Lime was created as an 'off price' brand within NEXT.
(Next being the premium brand)
It didn't really work for them, so they simply rebranded it NEXT Clearance.

So....it's no longer there? :P 8)

OH & I once got turned away from the hotel 70 degrees, because we were not suitably dressed, we were wearing red sweatshirts and jeans, must have been around 1978. we did manage to get in subsequently and it was like being on board a ship, it was the first time I ever tried Lobster - delicious!

There used to be 'Town Guides' on the Prom in both Colwyn Bay and Llandudno, this one was at Rhos On Sea:

"The Town Guide used to feature in most seaside towns and was a great idea for visitors. Running along the bottom of the map was around 20 buttons, each marked with an attraction or business, pressing the relevant button lit up a corresponding light on the map itself to indicate where the attraction was located."

Pierhead Pavilion on Llandudno Pier. During its supposed renovation, the decorative ironwork on the edge of the roof was all removed and was never seen again. Nice way to treat a Listed Building!

These posts remind me of things I never got around to doing. I never visited the Conwy Harbour Aquarium or the Rhos Point Museum or the Butterfly House at Bodlondeb. There's obviously a lesson there!

:o :o Good Lord! Blodyn, you are the common denominator.
Please make a point of visiting my shop as soon as possible.... L0L L0L

I'll see what I can do. I might even bring a moth with me! WWW

I wonder if it's down to the internet that these shops close, if I think about it I mostly only go to Asda, or if I'm feeling extravagent I may visit Tescos! I sometimes visit Home Bargains, B & Q or Homebase but thats about it. Most things (not food) I get online, usually on Ebay D)
-
I get most things online too, including my weekly shopping. Working shifts can make it difficult to get to Asda when I want so I tend to do it online the day before my rest day and get it delivered to my door to save trudging around the store (which I hate). It also stops any impulsive buying which I tend to get sucked into with those 'special offers' on goods I wouldn't normally buy.

An interesting photo from January 2007, showing Harmony House in St George's Place occupied by a multitude of businesses. Now, the entire building is empty.

It was in excellent, solid condition even then.. just lookat the roof! I used to walk by an check on the Pen Morfa regularly.
It sticks in my mind as a reminder of how you really cannot trust the Council or Developers.
A travesty and a tragedy.

I think this photo (taken in July 2008) illustrates quite well how claims that Penmorfa could not be run profitably as a hotel were ludicrous. If you couldn't make money with a hotel in a setting like that, then you had to be doing something wrong.
