CONWY residents have been encouraged to contact their county council regarding what roads they would like to no longer have a 20mph speed limit.

As of September 17, the majority of residential roads throughout Wales changed from 30mph to 20mph.

That was, according to Welsh Government, to help “save lives”.

But in April, the cabinet secretary for North Wales and transport, Ken Skates, said he will be looking to make a “targeted change” to 20mph zones in Wales.

You can have your say on where 20mph should be changed by emailing traffic@conwy.gov.uk.

JFS is a right belter,   Glan y mor rd and Llandudno rd along the tech stretch the police speed checks have been on them roads for the last 40 odd years,  about the 20 it is Fact that JFS made a big plea in the Senedd in 2020 for the 20,  the video is even on her page she pleaded for the 20 then the old political card came out. Her plea wasn’t just outside schools and housing estates But everywhere.

I was leaving the Talgoed Nursery this morning and turned right to go along the A470 towards the A55.        This exit from the Nursery is on a bad bend and traffic can be very fast, so you have to exit  on to the A470 very carefully.
Today we had no problem because at the head of the traffic coming from the Glan Conwy are was a three wheeler tricycle.    It must have been going at about 6 mph and there were dozens and dozens of vehicles behind it.
I dread to think what the queue would be like if they had carried on riding up the steep winding hill that lay ahead of them.        :o

'Daylight robbery' claim as cost of driving one of Wales's most scenic roads has spiked
Marine Drive takes motorists around the Great Orme but concerns about 'excessive' rises

It is one of the most scenic roads in Wales and a top destination for visitors to Llandudno. But the price of taking a trip by car on Marine Drive around the Great Orme (Y Gogarth) has risen as steeply as parts of the road in recent years.

The price to drive the four mile stretch was £3.90 in 2022/23. This went up to £4.50 in the last financial year and has now been raised to £5.50 - a rise of more than 40% in two years.

One person on social media called it "daylight robbery" but others said it was good value for a day out and that it also included parking at the Great Orme summit.

I never realised that the price had gone up so much.      I have never paid for a toll fee to go on the Marine Drive as I always use the entrance to the Drive by St Tudno's Church as it's free and it is always nice driving up the Great  Orme

This council are a disgrace now the state of Llandudno, coming down Conwy road the weeds along the road into town. The mess of mostyn street. 🥲.  The amount of cars you see getting to the toll both as soon as they see the price they turn back., people say well that price gets you free parking at the summit. 99.9%  don’t go to the summit so £5-50 for just driving around is bonkers. A realistic price you would get more going round.

You are right with a lot of the things that you have said Norman.    The estate near where I live also has loads of weeds growing in the gutters whereas in the past CCBC  workers have gone around with weedkiller before the weeds became a problem
I've driven around the Marine Drive hundreds of times ( never paid once )  but after driving around the Great Orme I've never gone back up it to park in the Summit Car Park and I would imagine not many others would either

Re: Roadworks could affect Ysbyty Glan Clwyd traffic for up to 32 weeks

VISITORS and staff at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan are being asked to co-operate with new traffic flow advice for up to 32 weeks of roadworks, to safeguard emergency admissions.

Access and footway improvements on Rhuddlan Road, adjacent to the hospital, are part of plans to build 100 new residential homes, with work due to begin on July 1.

It will see a section of carriageway, approaching the hospital from the A55 and Bodelwyddan, closed between 9am and 3.30pm on weekdays and some weekends, with temporary traffic lights in operation.

Glan Clwyd’s director of operations, Jalibani Ndebele, is asking both staff and visitors driving to the site to approach from the opposite direction, via the A525 and Sarn Lane, if possible.

This is to allow emergency ambulances priority access through the roadworks from the A55 and into the hospital’s emergency department.

Speed camera back on Conwy coastal road where drivers kept getting fined for breaking 20mph limit
There are a number of new 20mph locations now being enforced by Go Safe

The road is Glan-y-Mor in Penrhyn Bay - which runs between Llandudno and Colwyn Bay/Rhos-on-Sea. After racking up the fines in April it was then not on the list of roads enforced by Go Safe in May and June.

On that stretch of road, pedestrians are away from traffic and only housing on one side......a good view from a great distance for a speed camera trap. What was the body count when it was 30mph? I am using the A55/A470 for my Old Colwyn to Llandudno trips.......have not seen the van at Colwyn Bay station for a while but when you are doing 50mph who cares?

What new 20mph guidance says about which Welsh roads could return to 30mph
Welsh Government's transport minister Ken Skates has published new guidance for local authorities

Welsh Government's transport minister Ken Skates has today released new guidance that is expected to see an increase in 30mph 'exception' roads in Wales. The new limit was introduced by the government last September - and has proved to be the most controversial legislation since devolution in 1999.

In terms of where limits could be changed, it issued this guidance.
30mph would not be appropriate on sections of roads which may have significant demand for walking, wheeling and cycling, such as:

Two-week road closure to start just as peak summer season gets underway
The work is part of an ongoing programme to help reduce flooding on a road.
Drivers' journeys will be disrupted for two weeks during the summer holidays due to drainage works on a scenic route. Conwy Council is closing the B5106 between Trefriw and Dolgarrog from Monday, July 22 until Monday, August 5.
