One big problem with the entire area is the lack of decent toilets for visitors. And so many of our visitors are elderly, who require the loo fairly often.

I wondered why the Police helicopter and Lifeboats were active so much the last two days... now I see why.

Here... a lady missing from The Risboro hotel since Friday.

Have you seen her?
No , but the Police dogs etc were combing the streets on Saturday night, we had the biggest German Shepherd that I have ever seen outside our front gate. They closed the roads whilst they searched with the dog and it headed off up toward the Orme.
Mad, Bad and Dangerous to know.

The trouble is, I keep thinking I see her all over town... but a lady in her late fifties, with neat blonde-to-greying hair, dressed in walking gear... they all look so much alike.

Getting back to the toilets and coaches discussion. Go to Pringles in Llanfair P.G., a medium sized retail "woolen mill" type of store, and you will find upwards of 50 toilet spaces in the mens. That is because they know that when a coach arrives there are 25 upwards males heading straight there. All at the same time

When I was bus driving they used to 'look after' the drivers to make sure they stopped there so the amount of toilets was probably a calculated investment to be honest.

SDQ, of course its an investment, no need to be honest about it, they are rightly proud of them. Edinburgh Woollen Mills are professionals. The point I'm making is that Llandudno coach station its toilet (and maybe its Cafe, I dont know about the new one) is not a good professionaly planned facility.

Even the old mobile unit they had at the Coach Park couldn't cope in the silly season!   That had 4 urinals and two WC's for men and 4 WC's for the ladies.   Despite regular cleaning during the day it was a mess and it is a wonder that people used them.  Needs must I suppose!   ZXZ

The new cafe, as far as I understand, has just ONE toilet.
You're joking?!  :o
Mr Clive Wolfendale submitted a planning application to replace the toilets on the coach park. The application was considered at May's Planning Committee meeting.
The application was to demolish the existing facility and to replace with a "Ship Container" looking system. The committee refused the application as the Container system was not acceptable, but the committee were keen for an amended scheme to be resubmitted. Authority was delegated to officers to negotiate a more visually acceptable solution.

Text from minutes:

Code Ref: 0/37711 - Demolition of Existing Toilet Block and Erection of Replacement Portable Toilet Block, Caffi Cais, Coach Park, Mostyn Broadway, Llandudno

Minutes:

An addendum to the report was presented, highlighting the primary considerations of the application i.e. the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the Conservation Area and the desirability of preserving the setting of the adjoining Listed Buildings.

Members considered the type of portable structure being proposed as inappropriate for a Conservation Area and for the delivery of tourism.  However, Members recognised the need for such a provision, but with improved design/structure.  As a consequence, the Committee were minded to refuse planning permission, but grant delegated authority to the Development and Building Control Manager to determine a revised application for an improved design of toilet block.

RESOLVED:-
(a)   That the Planning Committee be minded to refuse planning permission.

(b)  That the Development and Building Control Manager be authorised to determine the application under delegation.

(c)   That the Development and Building Control Manager be authorised to determine any re-submitted proposal/application under delegation.

Indeed, it seems that the inclination is always to BLOCK doing something... rather than commit TO doing something.

Why was there no resolution to make a deadline for this so called IMPROVED proposal?

Nothing focus's the attention like a deadline.

Funding has been approved for the Alice In Wonderland Town Trail at a cost of £90,000:

The connection between Alice in Wonderland and Llandudno is well
known.  The proposal consists of a number of features which start from
the Llandudno Promenade, leading up the Happy Valley, finally ending at
the entrance of the Alice in Wonderland garden trail.  This will offer a
number of opportunities ranging from family outings, educational trips,
both formal and informal, and enhancement of the visitor experience,
which in turn plays an integral part of supporting the local economy.

The proposal consists of installing the following elements:

Mosaic panels depicting Alice in Wonderland characters designed
by  pupils from Ysgol y Gogarth will be fixed to structures in
Llandudno Bay, Llandudno Promenade and Happy Valley Park.

Five large wooden carvings depicting Alice, the Queen of Hearts,
the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit and the Caterpillar will be
positioned around Llandudno, with some set into existing
flowerbeds and enhanced by appropriate bedding.  Each carving
will ‘signpost’ on to the next feature.

A Victorian bandstand will be built as a new feature, consisting of
balustrade panels featuring characters such as the Dodo, Playing
Card, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the Walrus and Caterpillar.
This feature will enable opportunities for schools and local groups
to practice instrumental performances.

A floral clock will provide a major feature, depicting the White
Rabbit’s pocket watch, created on the Llandudno Promenade.  The
clock will measure approximately 2 metres, it will be designed to
generate solar energy to power the GRP timing mechanism,
ensuring the clock continues to offer the correct time all year round.

In order that people are encouraged to follow the trail from the
promenade to the Alice in Wonderland garden trail, a series of
cement rabbit paw prints will be embedded, and small arrow signs
will lead to the next feature.
