Bangor Aberconwy MP Claire Hughes has raised the issue of town centre crime and its impact on Llandudno businesses with the Prime Minister.

Ms Hughes, the Labour Member of Parliament for Bangor Aberconwy, welcomed the Government’s commitments to tackling town centre crime and anti-social behaviour, after she raised the issues faced by businesses in Llandudno with Sir Keir Starmer.

At the session of Prime Minister’s Questions in parliament this week, Ms Hughes highlighted problems faced by businesses dealing with an increase in shoplifting. She welcomed the recent announcement by UK Government of a further £200m to boost neighbourhood policing, and asked what further action the Government is taking to tackle retail crime.

“Llandudno is a beautiful seaside town and wonderful place to visit. But many businesses are struggling with the rise of shoplifting. In some cases, thieves are stealing in full view of staff because they just don’t fear the consequences.

I'd forgotten we had an MP, to be honest. Good to see that she has remembered that Llandudno exists...

She knows that Llandudno exists she has an office here employing local staff.  You will often see her walking round town.

The traditional seaside resort home to Wales' biggest snooker tournament

Llandudno is blessed with scenic landscapes including twin beaches and Victorian features and has been the home of the Welsh Open snooker tournament since 2023

One of Llandudno's biggest sporting draws is the Welsh Open snooker tournament, which takes place at Venue Cymru, and kicks off on Monday (February 10). Among competitors taking part in this year's tournament are Ronnie O'Sullivan, Welshman Mark Williams and world champion Kyren Wilson................https://www.walesonline.co.uk/whats-on/traditional-seaside-resort-home-wales-30965040?IYA-reg=49560bcd-5a9c-47f0-8fc5-ba2e71710589

The Nick Beer 10k proved a huge success for runners and charities
THE 33rd Annual Nick Beer Memorial 10k race proved another huge success for event organisers Always Aim High, the 744 finishers, and for a host of local charities, despite the bitterly cold weather and a blustery wind around the Great Orme.
Well done all who competed in that bitterly cold day, they are all winners

Llandudno to get new crime reporting system after resort blighted by 389 youth crimes in past year
The true scale of youth criminality is 'likely to be much higher'

Local councillors say gangs of youths have pinched chairs from hotels, damaged Morris Column poster sites and some started a fire at Llandudno Hospital. Graffiti had been sprayed on the walls at Venue Cymru and, in the six months since seven new shelters were installed on the promenade, the windows of all but one had been smashed.

Janet Finch-Saunders 'talking Llandudno down' with 'incorrect' anti-social crime claims, police say
Police chiefs have accused the Aberconwy MS of making 'misleading' statements about crime levels in the resort

No one likes putting Llandudno down but if the figures that the MS has said are misleading then the Police should point them out to everyone.
It may help any problems that may be there if there were Police on the beat in the town.    Years ago we used to see Police walking around the town in pairs and I think that most people would be quite happy to see them back on the beat again

JFS is always putting Llandudno down now she has been found out.   Shame she has never worked with the police or council. She just works for herself.  Just have to seen how she bully’s her staff.

You know the Councillors better than most locals Norman and I know little about JFS.             It's easy enough for her to criticise the town but it would be more constructive if she came up with solutions
With everything that has gone wrong in the town in the last 30 years it would appear that the Llandudno Councillors have got nothing to be proud of.    Why they bother to stand for election is beyond my comprehension if they are not to speak out strongly against decisions that adversely affect the town
We are extremely lucky in Upper Colwyn Bay to have had a proactive councillor who has worked very hard for the interests of all the residents up here.    Sadly Cllr Trevor Stott is now suffering from ill health

Llandudno will get £10m UK Government cash for theatre - but not everyone will be happy
There had been serious doubts over whether Conwy council would receive the money

However part of the Venue Cymru proposal is the relocation of the library and tourist information service from Mostyn Street to the theatre. This has been met with strong opposition locally as it would take footfall from the town centre.
I wonder who dictated this condition, does anyone know who?

Hugo, An interesting article with a few different views expressed............

A post from the past below...... It made me think that although good for the town, perhaps it could be managed better, especially the wage bill, I seem to recall at that time, commenting on why a managerial assistant needed an assistant

Local news from Cllrs. Harry Saville and Louise Emery, Gogarth ward..............

UPDATE ON LLANDUDNO LIBRARY AND TOURIST INFORMATION CENTRE
The recent announcement that the UK Government has awarded £10 million to upgrade Venue Cymru has come as a surprise, especially as the funding package was previously paused pending a review and our local MP recently told the press that the funding wouldn't available.

Conwy County Borough Council had put forward plans to relocate both Llandudno's Library and Tourist Information Centre to Venue Cymru as part of the £10 million upgrade.  Last year the Council ran a public consultation on their plans to include the library move within the upgrade - they're yet to release the results of the that consultation.

We both feel that moving the library and the TIC to Venue Cymru would be a bad idea.  Both facilities should be easily accessible within our town centre.  We will be pressing the Council to release the results of their library relocation consultation and commit to keeping both the library and TIC in our town centre.
