Llandudno library and tourism service could move from town centre to Venue Cymru
The relocation is part of £10m levelling up investment secured from the last UK Government

They are now set to launch a consultation about moving facilities over to Venue Cymru - which is owned by the local authority - as part of the revamp. The council said this would see the opening times of the library extended and tie in with the cultural offer at the complex.

But it would mean losing these facilities from the centre of the resort, which has already been impacted by the loss of Marks and Spencer from Mostyn Street.

'Never seen it looking so scruffy' - Llandudno speaks out for rest of North Wales as weeds take over
'The whole place is looking like a post-apocalyptic film'

It’s a sentiment echoed across North Wales. Complaints about the state of public spaces are nothing new but they seem to have gone up a level this summer. Weeds have become public enemy number one.

Some people argued for personal responsibility. “If everyone got out their never-used hoe and did 30 minutes it would make a difference to their area, others, pained by ever-increasing council taxes, insisted it was “the council’s job”.

That seems to be the same wherever you are in the county.    I was walking my dog in a nearby street and saw some lovely flowers, even a Buddleia growing in the kerbside as well as a mass of various weeds
It is an eyesore but there is a lot to be said about the comment posted  "Some people argued for personal responsibility. “If everyone got out their never-used hoe and did 30 minutes it would make a difference to their area, others, pained by ever-increasing council taxes, insisted it was “the council’s job”.
Instead of looking at the mess in front of your property, do something about it.  There is an empty house across the way to me and it has a grass verge which I mow every two weeks.   It only takes me 10 minutes when I do it but it keeps it looking tidy

I agree with you Hugo, although the council cut our local grass, it is with commercial machines, not very subtle, we keep it neat and tidy,
prior to moving here in 2018, our previous house faced an ugly weed/bramble infested patch about 20 feet square, Mrs H. cleared it, planted shrubs and slate edges, I cut the grass :-[, but a pleasure to look at, and admired by many, a little effort goes a long way.

Man injured after falling down 'deep hole' which had been dug on Llandudno beach                                ref DP
The coastguard has now issued a warning to anyone digging holes on beaches

A young man suffered a back injury after falling into a deep hole dug on a beach in Llandudno. The Coastguard was called to the incident yesterday (Sunday) and the casualty was taken to hospital.

A Llandudno Coastguard statement said: "We were called out on Sunday evening to assist a casualty on the beach near the old lifeboat slipway. We found a young man who had injured himself in a large and deep hole which had been dug in the sand.

"We performed a thorough assessment of the casualty and quickly established that he had injured his back. We stabilised his condition and were able to get him onto our rigid stretcher in order to stabilise his back and get him off the beach.

"Our friends at [Merrion Hotel, Llandudno] very kindly made an area available to us where we could make the casualty comfortable until an ambulance arrived to convey the casualty to hospital. When digging in the sand on beaches, please bear in mind that sand can be very unstable.

"If you do dig any holes please don't leave them unattended and fill them in before you leave."

THE MOST EXPENSIVE streets in Llandudno over the last five years have been revealed.

Professional fast sales company Property Solvers tracked average sold price data from HM Land Registry since 2019 to see where the highest and lowest-priced homes are located across Llandudno postcodes.

Gathering five years’ worth of sold house price data across Llandudno postcodes, Nant Y Gamar Road, Gloddaeth Avenue and Abbey Road have some of the highest-valued homes across the region.

Some of the cheapest residential streets in Llandudno include Tudor Court, Manor Park and Ffordd Gwynedd.

Llandudno high street fears over plans to move town's library
The library and tourist information centre could move to Venue Cymru

Concerned Llandudno councillors questioned whether Conwy would listen to results of a public consultation over "contentious" plans to move the town’s library and tourist information centre to Venue Cymru. Conwy ’s cabinet this week supported broad proposals for the Venue Cymru Futures Project and plans to submit a business case to access a £10m pot from the UK Government levelling-up fund.

But Llandudno councillors fear the removal of the library and tourist information centre would damage footfall on the high street. A public consultation must first be held.

Llandudno councillors attending the Bodlondeb meeting questioned whether the council would listen if there was a public outcry to keep the library in the town centre. “Is there any point to the consultation?” said Cllr Louise Emery.

“You know, everybody hates a consultation when the decision has been made. If it’s overwhelmingly in favour of keeping it in the town centre, will you think about that? Is there any point in a consultation?”

Leader Cllr Charlie McCoubrey warned not applying for the funds could see the library and TIC put at risk as they are not statutory services. “I think there’s always a point in a consultation,” he said.

Where and when Llandudno roads will close this weekend for Civic parade
The Civic Sunday event takes place this weekend

This weekend will see temporary road closures in Llandudno town centre for the annual Civic parade. The Civic Sunday event takes place every summer in the heart of the seaside town.

The parade honours the local community, its representatives, and their accomplishments. The parade - organised by Llandudno Town Council - will be led by Llandudno Town Band and includes the Mayor, Councillors, Civic dignitaries, military, civilian and community organizations.

It takes place this Sunday (July 28) and will involve a number of road closures for a temporary period - including Mostyn Street, Lloyd Street and the promenade.

Reasons for Llandudno being rated among UK's best for family holiday staycations
It's a place that appeals to people of all ages - but less so for couples

Tourists have flooded to Llandudno since the 19th century and what appealed to the Victorians still holds true today. As well as the resort’s regal promenade and twin beaches, the Great Orme provides views, nature and loads of activities.

The Conwy town is popular with coach parties but younger people like to visit too. Its attraction to a cross-generational demographic was confirmed by a survey of Britain’s holiday hotspots which placed Llandudno as the best in Wales for family staycations – and the fourth best in the UK.
