A Llandudno pub was cordoned off as a large police presence descended on the Conwy resort last night. Fountains Bar and Caf? was reportedly evacuated following an incident in the early hours of this morning.
Witnesses reported seeing a person lying on the pavement outside the popular bar on Upper Mostyn Street. The nature of the incident has not been disclosed but it solicited a large response from the emergency services.

But when asked which venues were his favourite, his answer for his most preferred in the UK was simple ? Llandudno.

After his semi-final victory at the Masters last week, a tournament he went on to win, he told SportsBoom.com: ?UK-wise, I?d have to say Llandudno, Llandudno?s nice. Other than that I?m struggling. I don?t like dirty. If I go somewhere where it?s dirty and damp I don?t like it.?

Llandudno will host the Welsh Open for the second year in a row after the success of the 2023 edition, which took place at Venue Cymru.

Councillors have reaffirmed their belief that proposals to transform Llandudno's former M&S store into a food and leisure hub would help revitalise the town centre. Mostyn Estates were granted planning permission before Christmas for a change of use of the building from retail to mixed use, including food, drink, and leisure.

But Conwy Council's planning committee were asked to reaffirm their decision this month after going against officers? advice in December. Then, planning officers felt the application didn?t include enough information and told the committee it should refuse the application in its current form, citing the potential of late-night trade affecting hotels and residents living on Somerset Street.

Members were warned to think "long and hard" before removing certain planning conditions; otherwise, homes could find themselves on the doorstep of a nightclub or takeaway. Such ventures, though, would need additional licences, and several committee members felt restricting the building?s potential uses could narrow its marketability, insisting it was key to Mostyn Street recovering after a shift in footfall from the town centre to the retail parks.

THE site of Alice Liddell's holiday home earmarked for new housing is up for sale for ?2.25million.

The land where the second home of Alice Liddell once stood, the girl said to have inspired the Alice in Wonderland tales, has laid empty for years but "a high quality residential apartment scheme" or a healthcare related development could still be built.

Anwyl Homes had hoped to transform the former Penmorfa site on West Shore into apartments.

Proposals for redevelopment of the Penmorfa were being worked on; a consultation process was due to start in spring 2021 and a full planning application was due to be submitted that summer.

Sadly, building costs as well as other issues caused setbacks and now the site is up for sale with Legat Owen. The long 900-year lease is on the market for ?2,250,000 and expires in March 2922.

A description into the development site, by Legat Owen, states: "Planning permission was granted in 2008 for the demolition of the former hotel (which has been completed) and a scheme of 28 new build apartments over four floors (incl. ground) along with underground car parking.

My thoughts on Anwyl Construction are well known and unfortunately unprintable.       I've copied a bit from the advert and shown it below:-
"The property benefits from an extant planning permission for the development of an apartment scheme for 28 large apartments granted by Conwy County Borough Council on 26 June 2008. It is understood that this permission has been implemented."

That statement of course is a load of rubbish.    Planning permission expired in 2013 which is 11 years ago and as nothing has ever been done on the site by Anwyl Construction they cannot claim that the permission has been implemented

The site is a White Elephant and Anwyl Construction is either stupid or deceitful and I suspect that it's the latter.      The figures just don't add up and you don't have to be a rocket scientist or a CCBC planning Committee member to work that out.
If you pay 2,250,000 pounds for a plot of land and want to build 28 apartments on it then the land value per apartment works out at a staggering 80,000 plus and that's without any building costs!

It's a shame that there isn't a land banking tax that could be backdated to 2006 when all this nonsense started

War of words over 'land bank' accusation after Llandudno seaside development site put up for sale
The land at West Shore beach used to house a property called Penmorfa which had links with the Alice and Wonderland story
Why on earth is Anwyl Construction whinging about  criticism now.   In 2008 they applied for and were given permission to build 28 apartments on the site.     The artist's impression submitted by Anwyl Construction shows a good design and is in keeping with the other properties in the area, so why in the last 16 years has the company not built the apartments that they were given planning permision for?

FINAL APPROVAL has been given to extensive plans to transform the old Marks & Spencer site in Llandudno into a three-floor retail, food and leisure hub.

The 61 Mostyn Street site was vacated by M&S in 2022, after the high street retailer relocated its main store to Parc Llandudno.

The building was briefly occupied by UK Leisure Living as a pop-up shop last year, but this was only a short-term lease.

Plans were submitted by site owners Mostyn Estates late last year, which will see the building become a three-storey area for retail, food and beverages, and indoor leisure areas.

Llandudno goats pause as they await 'snow' on chilly morning

RESIDENTS were delighted  to see Llandudno's famous Kashmiri goats pausing for thought in Craig-y-Don this morning.

The goats took a moment to reflect on the corner of Clarence Road.

They were probably wondering where all this 'baaaaaad' weather was!

A Yellow weather warning for snow was in force for Conwy county this morning from 6am but not a snowflake arrived.

Woman dies in Llandudno house fire tragedy
Five fire engines were sent to the scene on Kings Road

A woman has tragically died following a fire at a house in Llandudno. North Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called to the property on Kings Road at 10.59am this morning, (Friday 9 February) after they received a report of a fire.

Two engines from Llandudno, two from Colwyn Bay and the aerial ladder platform from Rhyl, were sent to the scene along with fire officers, who are undertaking a joint investigation into the incident with North Wales Police.
