A PROPERTY in Llandudno will feature in the final of Wales? Home of the Year tomorrow (September 16) competing against four other homes across Wales.

The Victorian detached home was crowned the winner in the third episode of the series focussing on North West Wales.

The BBC programme is a six-part series that began on Friday, 12 August, and weatherman, drummer and fashionista Owain Wyn Evans was joined by interior designer Mandy Watkins, and architect Glen Thomas to judge the homes in the region.

That's an interesting TV programme Steve.     I watched it when it won as it featured a house in Gannock Park that I once viewed .     It was on sale at ?50K c1985 but a few years ago it was on sale again at over ?800K,   if only comes to mind
On BBC I Player there is a similar programme on in Scotland and that's also well worth watching

Looking at Rightmove today it's amazing how many properties are priced at over ?1,000,000. It was unheard of just a few years ago.
One in particular caught my eye. The owners had it built it only a few years ago and in the process of creating the views it enjoys today devastated a hillside of it's trees and and no doubt happily took a ?10k fine for doing so illegally. Their flashing Christmas light show was in poor taste and so is the name of the property.

Yes, Dave.

From CyD you can actually see two properties up on Nant-y-Gamar Road which have managed to lose a few trees in recent times.

Yes, one of them is for sale and another property is currently up for sale at a similar price situated immediately behind the Craigside Inn.

I seem to recall an order to replant 270 trees was made along with the fine. Buyer beware the view will disappear in years to come.
Meantime the new owners can think of a more appropriate name than the tacky and arrogant LLamedos.

A fine of 10K doesn't seem a lot for all the damage that the person caused.     In Sandbanks someone cut down one tree with a TPO because it was spoiling their view and the tree was in their neighbour's garden!
This illegal act was done at 3.00am and the perpetrator was fined ?75K  The Council decided that the property had increased in value by ?75K and fined the guy ?75K accordingly.
But then they didn't have a Council like our CCBC

Cllr Dave Jones could have been a bit more diplomatic, as he is claiming incoming retirees bring nothing to the area, I have said before, that I have had to employ most trades on renovation work and use all the local shops and services, which helps keep the younger generation working, and even as I post this we have a local building firm in.   $angry$

Nine tourism ideas for Llandudno to prosper 'without becoming another Rhyl'
A Conwy councillor shared his own ideas for the seaside town while expressing concerns over 'bedsit blight' and an OAP 'drain on services'

Cllr Jones represents the Junction; it would be interesting to know what the current crop of Llandudno CB Councillors think.  I believe many local voluntary groups and charitable bodies find that their activities are greatly helped by retirees from outside the area who bring knowledge and skills not otherwise readily available.  People retiring to the seaside is not solely a Llandudno phenomenon and has been the way of life for generations.

Whether you like Cllr Dave Jones' comments or not, at least he is not afraid to express his opinion, unlike any Llandudno Councillor who has allowed the CCBC to damage Llandudno's popular attractions.
People who retire to Llandudno from outside the area  in many instances create a valuable contribution to the town,     However affordable homes and in particular Social Housing should be for the benefit of local people or people who have resided in the area for many years.

I've experienced it with Llandudno UDC  many years ago when unemployed people from inner cities got preferential treatment to council housing at the expense to young people who lived in the town all their life.   I just hope that this practice has now stopped

Controversial plan to turn Llandudno B&B into bedsit returns to planning committee
Councillors are set to debate the controversial application again

A controversial planning application to convert a former Llandudno bed and breakfast into a bedsit will again come before Conwy?s planning committee this week. In August, councillors threw out a planning application to convert the Mayfair on Deganwy Avenue into a house of multiple occupation (HMO).

But Conwy County Council received dozens of letters from concerned hoteliers fearing problems with anti-social behaviour, drug use, and police visiting the area. The council also came under fire for continuing to use the site to temporarily house homeless people, despite temporary planning permission to operate as an HMO expiring on July 5.

But councillors will again discuss the matter on Wednesday afternoon (September 28) when the planning committee meet at Bodlondeb. That?s because, although councillors have already rejected the plans, councillors must reaffirm their decision after going against council planning officers? advice.

I wonder if we will be entertained by a Kafqaesque situation whereby a brave (?) CCBC officer will appeal against a decision of their own Planning Committee ?

a brave (?) CCBC officer. ...........Well not yet anyway...............                    ref pioneer

PLANS to convert a Llandudno bed and breakfast into council-run bedsits were again thrown out at a planning meeting today ? despite the homeless situation being described as dire.

Because committee members went against planning officers advice, the application returned to todays agenda where councillors had to reaffirm their previous decision before the rejection was confirmed.

But the debate again ensued, and councillors heard the homeless situation remained dire.

Cllr Mandy Hawkins proposed councillors reaffirmed their decision.

I've just looked at the West Shore web cam and it looks like the coast is getting a bit of a battering,    From the way that the flags are flying about the wind is blowing from the South or South East.
Here in Colwyn Heights it has been rough all day with heavy rain and high winds, the rain has stopped for now but the wind is still strong but hopefully will die down soon

Re: Llandudno ........Coastal defences at North Shore and West Shore

THE cabinet of Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) has backed plans to improve coastal defences at Llandudno?s North Shore beach without the addition of sand.

At a meeting on Tuesday, September 27, the cabinet approved its support of the option to modify and extend the existing dwarf wall to the rear of the promenade at North Shore.

At West Shore, these plans will involve the modification and extension of the existing rear wall between, Gloddaeth Avenue and the Welsh Water pumping station.

A full business case, as requested by the Welsh Government?s Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) branch, and which is in line with Coastal Risk Management Programme (CRMP) guidance, will now be submitted.

In August, Welsh Government rejected CCBC?s proposal for funding to see sand returned to North Shore beach.

The schemes at both North and West Shore are expected to benefit a combined 5,307 properties

No surprises here and you can only blame CCBC  and the Llandudno Councillors for the present situation.        If  only CCBC had not carried out the ill fated West Shore sea defence in the 1990's and not put quarry waste on the North Shore then Llandudno would indeed have qualified for the funding.
Hindsight doesn't come in to it, Llandudno locals ( not Councillors ) warned the Council of the consequences of their actions before work had even started on those two ill thought out schemes
