A PERSON was airlifted to hospital after being "seriously injured" at a hotel in Llandudno yesterday (March 27).  Pioneer

Wales Air Ambulance and the Llandudno Coastguard attended the incident, at a hotel on the promenade, which required a cliff rescue stretcher to get the casualty to the helicopter.

The person was then airlifted to hospital for "urgent" treatment.

A Llandudno Coastguard spokesperson said: "We were called out yesterday (Wednesday) to assist our colleagues at Wales Air Ambulance with extracting a seriously injured casualty from a local hotel.

"We were able to use our cliff rescue stretcher to negotiate some tricky stairs and steps and then convey the casualty to the helicopter on the prom.

"We then kept the area clear whilst the helicopter took off and conveyed the casualty to hospital for some urgent treatment.

"If you are aware of anyone in any danger or distress anywhere around the coast, please call 999 and ask for the Coastguard."

The coastal defences approved for Llandudno as sands of time running out on golden beach option
Conwy council has secured ?5.2m but that will not pay for a new sandy beach

It's not the beach that so many have been asking for but Conwy council has secured a multi-million pound funding boost for Llandudno's flood defences. A campaign has been running in the resort for several years to secure the money to bring back sand as part of the new coastal defences.

They have looked on with jealously as Colwyn Bay and Rhos-on-Sea saw tonnes of golden sand piled on their beaches in recent years as part of flood protection work. Those were mainly funded by EU money while Llandudno lives with a stone covered main beach after boulders were piled there in 2014 to protect the town from floods.

The cost of going for a sand and groynes option for a 600m section of beach is estimated to cost an extra ?12.54m. Neither Welsh Government cash or new UK Government levelling-up funds - the replacement for European funding - have been on offer to cover that extra cost.

EAGLED-eyed customers spotted the real Alan Bates back in Craig-y-Don - along with a film crew.

The former Llandudno sub-postmaster used to run the Wool Post and the Post Office in Craig-y-Don with his partner Suzanne.

The campaigner was spotted in Coffee V last month. He was seen beavering away on his laptop.

Mr Bates was played by Toby Jones (Empire of Light, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Detectorists) in ITV's Mr Bates vs The Post Office, which aired in early January.

Coffee V posted on their Facebook: "Lots of excitement at the coffee shop as we had a film crew in with the amazing Alan Bates! His post office may not be in Craig Y Don anymore but this man will always mean so much to so many people in our community and further afield."

Tuk-tuk sightseeing tours could soon operate from Llandudno

Visitors to Llandudno, Conwy and Rhos-on-Sea could soon enjoy tuk-tuk tours. The council?s licensing committee will meet on Monday, April 15 at Conwy?s Bodlondeb HQ to discuss the proposals.

A tuk-tuk is a three-wheeled motor-assisted bicycle with passenger seats at the rear. Popular in countries such as Thailand, tuk-tuks are used as a cheap, accessible form of taxi service.

The committee will meet, debate, and draft conditions for tuk-tuks operating as private hire vehicles for short sightseeing tours in the county. An unnamed applicant is proposing to run pre-booked tours at Marine Drive, Great Orme, Llandudno; from Llandudno to the Great Orme Summit; from Llandudno to Craig y Don and Rhos on Sea; from Llandudno to Conwy quay; and from Llandudno North
Shore to West Shore.
