Note this article is from the Nottingham post...........?

Residents blast 'dirty pig' tourists for littering on beaches - leaving cigarettes, filthy nappes and plastic
Coastal communities have hit out at disrespectful visitors for littering and inconsiderate parking

t's safe to say we haven't seen a great deal of sunshine this summer. But on the rare days it is sunny, tourists are hitting their local beaches.

But sadly they are leaving a great deal of litter behind. Costal communities behind have hit out at 'dirty pig' tourists, with residents in North Wales saying people are leaving behing fags, 'sh*t-filled' nappies, and plastic.

Drone images show progress at Llandudno's Parc Bodafon

The housing development, situated off Nant-y-Gamar Road in Llandudno, will feature 49 homes across four-acres.

Seventeen of the properties will be 'affordable homes.'

Construction work by Anwyl began in May and the first homes will be ready to move into in early 2024.

GeoView Drones took this image of the construction site.

A new sales centre at the housing development opened in August and the first wave of homes are on sale.

A GRADE II listed structure on Llandudno?s Great Orme hillside is set to be transformed into a space for activities and business.

Conwy County Borough Council has secured ?300,000 in funding from Welsh Government to carry out repairs and a refurbishment to areas of Llandudno, including Llandudno Colonnade.

The two-tier structure, which leads up to the Great Orme headland, was opened in 1932 by Mostyn Estates, but has been poorly maintained, with damage to stonework and ironwork in disrepair.

THE SITE of a former luxury jewellery and watch store in Llandudno has gone on the market, three years after the business closed.

The building that was once home to Gimberts, at 94 Mostyn Street, has gone on the market with St David?s Commercial.

Gimberts had traded in the resort town for more than 40 years until its abrupt closure in 2020, having failed to reopen after the New Year break, and with no message to customers.

Once stocked with luxury jewellery and watches, and well-known for its fine china, the site has lay empty since but the sign remains.

The property has been described as in a ?prime? location by the estate agent, who have valued it at ?285,000, with an option for a minimum two-year lease for ?20,000 a year.

The building is made up of three floors, with additional basement storage, which can be used for retail, offices and accommodation.

Re: What's Llandudno Like Right Now?.........FIREWORKS display

FIREWORKS will be once again be lighting up the skies above Llandudno this October.    ref pioneer

Despite the annual commemoration of Guy Fawkes Night being observed on November 5, it is becoming a tradition for Llandudno to hold its event is October.

This is due to the beach event being "very tide dependent".

This year the display will return on Sunday, October 29 at 5.30pm on Llandudno's North Shore beach.

A spokesperson from Llandudno Town Council, who organise the event, said: "Should adverse weather conditions prevent the display from going ahead on this date, then the display will be held the night after (again weather permitting), on Monday, October 30 starting at 5.45pm.

"This beach event is very tide dependent, with at least an hour being required in advance of the display to safely set up on the beach (at around 150 metres from the promenade) and a suitable time following the approximate 20-minute display to safely remove equipment from the beach.

"Tides and operating times are, therefore, carefully, and thoroughly assessed.

"We would like to thank Mr Adam Williams of Llandudno Pier for his generous support in providing all the machinery and manpower to ensure the event goes ahead and to Conwy County Borough Council for their support.

"This major event couldn?t proceed without the strong partnership between the Town Council, Adam Williams and Conwy County Borough Council."

Attendees are asked to look out for collectors on the night.

The spokesperson said: "Donations will contribute towards the cost of the display."

Llandudno Town Council say fireworks, including sparklers, are not permitted within the event site.

A road closure will again be in place for the Promenade Road from 12-noon until 9pm.

The spokesperson said: "The council apologises in advance for any disruption this may cause and asks the public to please understand that this road closure is required to ensure they can enjoy another great display in a safe environment.

"The event is subject to weather conditions and announcements will be made closer to the date on our Facebook page Llandudno Fireworks Display and on the Llandudno Town Council website www.Llandudno.gov.uk."

Future of Llandudno's 'dangerous blight' beach looks set to be debated in Senedd
Petition launched in a bid to bring sand back to North Shore beach set to hit 10,000 signatures

Is it too little, too late?      How can the CCBC be allowed to make catastrophic decisions on Llandudno's two beaches and not be accountable fot the mistakes.    Llandudno Councillors who sat in on those planning meetings should be ashamed of themselves

A MAN whose restaurant in Llandudno closed late last year has since gone on to help set up a new film company in the town.

Bobby Sirrah was a business partner of Bistro Bach, on Mostyn Avenue, Craig-y-Don, for six years, until it ceased trading last November.

And though he admitted its closure, which was due to financial issues, was ?soul-destroying?, he and some childhood friends have since founded film collective ?The Fifth Branch?.

Since closing the restaurant, Bobby has worked on some ?very high-profile productions?, with more lined up

The film collective, he said, is specifically focused on promoting North Wales as a filming destination to draw larger productions to the area.

He said: ?We?re also focused on using local talent from actors to film crew to promote the talent that North Wales has to offer among its residents.

?Essentially, we?re pooling the talents of as many local people to work collaboratively on a single project.

?Loads of people have come forward to give their time and effort into this project.

?We?re currently looking for a large number of people to be extras in a few scenes in the upcoming weeks.?

People can sign up to be extras on the following Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/167593473013144.

A MAN who is among Llandudno?s most recognisable residents is celebrating 10 years of providing free entertainment to the town.

Sam Peters, 70, is better known as Llandudno?s ?Monkey Man?, given he?s often seeing pushing two cuddly toy monkeys in a pram.

Born just outside Birmingham, Sam first visited North Wales when he spent a week in Penmaenmawr each year in the 1950s and ?60s; he then moved to Llandudno 11 years ago.

He likes to feel as though he, along with wife and co-entertainer Amanda, is ?giving something back to the public?, after they helped him ? literally ? get back on his feet after he had to learn to walk again following a stroke.

I drove past the Paddling Pool in Craig Y Don today and could see a mini digger, dumper truck and other machinery there as well as a few workmen.    If the progress continues at this rate, I am confident that the work will be completed in time for the Spring Bank Holiday 2024.
What did surprise me was that among the dust and dirt there were a few people sat down by the cafe having teas or coffees.    Such a vast expanse of a promenade and yet those people chose to sit by a building site that has become an eyesore

Not excusing the situation, but there is talk, that the condition of the pool was not suitable for a quick fix, as the cement base was compromised ?

HUNDREDS of people lined the streets of Llandudno when Honda Goldwings motorbikes roared into town for the annual parade.

The bikes had been on static display during the day on the town's prom.

When darkness started to fall, the bikes - in all their luminescent glory - revved into town. Music blarred and horns were tooted.

Many riders wore fancy dress - characters included the Smurfs, pandas, Minnie Mouse, Spiderman and there were a few spooky skeletons!

Raffle tickets were sold. Proceeds will be donated to Welsh Air Ambulance.

Prior to the event, Dave Crowley, former chair of the Light Parade committee who is still an active Goldwinger, said: "We are expecting up to 150 bikes/trikes on show and for the parade. After the road parade, we muster on the prom for 'Best Solo Bike and Best trike' judging.

"Most people stay in town from Friday until Sunday. The council say the event is one of the main events of Llandudno's year earning more than ?2million to the town over the weekend."    pioneer

Nick Elphick from Llandudno, brought tears to the eyes of London surgeon Dr Martin Griffiths

A renowned North Wales artist brought tears to the eyes of an acclaimed inner-city trauma surgeon, when he sculpted him for TV show Extraordinary Portraits.

Nick Elphick, a former Coleg Menai student, was the first sculptor to be selected for the BBC programme, presented by comedian, musician and art lover Bill Bailey.
