Egypt is beautiful if you go on holiday, and terrible if you go on business, (as I have in the past)

Go for a  Star hotel, and simply check out the detail on Trip Advisor.   It's a fantastic resource.

I made my long awaited stay at Plas Rhianfa last night, a fabulous hotel in the style of a French Chateau on the banks of the Menai Straits. It has undergone a breathtaking refurbishment in recent years, and we took full advantage of the facilities, including hot tub, sauna, tennis court, games room. We'd decided that we didn't feel like the evening meal, so Reception kindly upgraded us to one of the suites instead. It's a wonderful hotel and I'm pleased to say the service was spot on. Will be returning there soon.  $good$

O'h wow, DaveR, those photos are incredible, well done.
They are so much better than anything on their website. I hope they see them.
So pleased you enjoyed it.
I was worried when I read about the new "Chateau Dining Experience" i.e. communal dining.
That would really put me off. Did you have dinner there?

Ooh, thank you, H.  ;D

Yes, we decided the Chateau Dining Experience was not for us! I think it's  a mistake to completely replace the normal evening dining with this - a lot of people like their privacy and do not wish to be forced into conversation with other guests, not to mention having a severely restricted menu. I personally think they would be better off offering the Experience a couple of times a month as a special attraction, and having the normal menu at all other times.

I think GVC would stretch to a visit there for you and H?  ;)

Funnily enough, there were Nescafe sachets in the rooms!

I agree with you. I think it will put more people off than it will encourage.
They seem to have made some rather strange decisions. They seem to be clutching at straws?
Fab place though as your photos show.

With only 21 bedrooms and massive overheads, I find it difficult to believe that it ever makes a profit, apart from the odd week when there is a wedding or two booked. I recall there was only 8 people booked in for the Chateau Dining Experience last night, everyone else had gone out for a meal! It's noticeable that the renovation of the gardens seems to have ground to a halt. Wonderful hotel, though, I'd recommend a visit to anyone.

It's owned by a  guy called Mike Clare, who made his fortune with the 'Dreams' chain of shops:

I am tempted! I expect that the evening menu would not be for us though!

I read on tripadvisor that someone said there was an alternative Light Bites menu.
Did you take any photos of your suite?

Breathtaking pictures mate, I am now regretting cancelling last New Year in favour of the cheaper alternative at Ruthin.

Those pictures you sent me on the iphone did not do it justice, I WILL be going to Plas Rhianfa.

I saw that too, but I think you have to order it when you check in.

Yes, we ended up in the Menai Suite, with a circular bed...  The room is about twice the size visible in the photo, with a dressing room area and the bathroom.

Cheers, mate. M said that it was far superior to Ruthin Castle. Plas Rhianfa have some special offers on, like 2 nights midweek for the price of one.

You will also occasionally see a TravelZoo voucher offer, which are usually great value.
