Dave unleashed his 'enforcer' against the St Georges.  ;) ;)

A full apology was extracted.... and various assurances obtained.  Z**

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your encouragement - it is greatly appreciated. The D800 is 32 megapixels as opposed to the D700 and D200's 12.1, and as a full frame sensor among other things, at that resolution it provides far better potential for cropping while retaining good resolution. The on-camera processing at sensor level is much less in the D800 than in the Nikon semi-professional range, allowing more control to the photographer in Photoshop Camera Raw.

I have just read your post about the wickedness of the St George's Hotel - terrible that!. I hope they are prepared to pay for your wonderful image. That is the trouble with the internet though - it is a honey pot for copyright theft and although there are the beginnings of a fight back from professional musicians, film makers and artists, it is still very much like the 'wild west' online at the moment. I think it will change in time.

PS: I edited this post because I originally wrote W W W instead of 'internet' and it appeared as a devil icon instead - although strangely appropriate in this context I thought....

The D700 is full frame, makes a big difference! A new set of FX lenses was nearly £2000 but well worth it, I have the 50mm, 15-30mm, and my favourite, the 28-300mm. The extra megapixels on the D800 are sort of nice, but larger and larger file sizes are playing havoc with my file storage. I'm already using 2TB drives as I have well over 100,000 images dating back about 8 years. :o

To be fair to the St. George's, I think it was a genuine mistake on their part.

This is a reworked version from a set of photos I took a couple of years ago, works quite well in black & white, I think:

Being used to "colour" photography these days, it's amazing how effective a good old black and white one can be, isn't it?

I like how the wet Llandudno Pier decking has the appearance of a highly polished surface in this shot:

Do you have to use fast film for night photos?  Forgive my ignorance I don't know anything about digita.  They are really good though. Congrats.

Generally one uses a longer exposure so it's best to use a tripod if you have one. ZXZ

No doubt DaveR will add more technical stuff.

Thank you! No films at all with digital, each photo is stored on a memory card, you can store several thousand pics on one card potentially. Night photos, I do some handheld but ideally done with a tripod (or balancing camera on a handy wall etc) and an exposure of a second or two.

Oh thanks for that.  I'll learn one day. I've got visions of you lying flat out to get that super one of the pier.

Haha, I did actually have the camera on the pier deck for that photo.

A couple of quick shots of Llandudno at night, done handheld on the pocket Sony RX100 camera. Not bad at all.
