A VICTORIAN-era hotel in Llandudno has welcomed back visitors following an extensive refurbishment.

Cae Mor Hotel, located on the town’ promenade, has today (June 21) unveiled a new look after a modern redesign.

Using numerous providers, suppliers and tradespeople from nearby, the hotel’s revamp includes 22 rooms, 15 of which offer views of North Wales' coastline.

The reinvestment has also created 20 new jobs.

Accessible rooms and family rooms are also available, at the refurbished hotel, which is located next door to Venue Cymru, and also hopes to appeal to business delegates and corporates attending events such as concerts, and conferences

A HOTEL in Llandudno could be used to house homeless residents based in the county of Conwy.

The Evans Hotel, on Charlton Street, is being considered by Conwy County Borough Council as a possible location for those who are homeless to reside.

It comes following a letter, seen by the Pioneer, from the hotel, stating that it has agreed to help the council with its housing crisis, and will no longer be offering packages including evening meals.

In May, it was revealed by the council’s cabinet member for housing, homelessness and service change, Cllr Emily Owen, that the number of children living in bed and breakfast accommodation in Conwy has reduced in the last year from 90 to 24.

A council statement read: “Homelessness is becoming increasingly common throughout the UK.

"Conwy County Borough Council has a statutory duty to provide temporary accommodation to those who find themselves homeless.

“Due to the housing crisis and the volume of people who are currently at risk of becoming homeless, this means we are having to use some bed and breakfasts and hotels throughout the county while we work with those experiencing homelessness to secure a more permanent solution.

“We are exploring whether the Evans Hotel is one of the hotels where we could book rooms.

“We understand the hotel is still open to the public and running as a hotel.”

The Evans Hotel was also approached for comment.                               ref pioneer

A Liverpool man took to TikTok to share his unexpected experience after staying at North Wales' "worst rated hotel". Zac Jones, stayed at The Grand Hotel in Llandudno and documented his stay on the social media platform.

In his initial video, Zac remarked that the hotel was "once renowned as a very luxurious hotel", although its former glory may have faded. However, he found some positives during his stay, suggesting it might not be as bad as its reputation suggests.

A HOTEL in Llandudno which closed four years ago and has been vacant ever since could undergo a major refurbishment ahead of its reopening.

The Queens Lodge, at 5 Clonmel Street, closed in 2020 with the failure of the business not helped by the “poor” condition it was in.

But the hotel has been snapped up by hotel operating chain Everbright Hotels, which owns the Queen’s Hotel across the road.

The company has now submitted plans for a huge refurbishment to the external façade and internally, with the new owners “undertaking repairs, upgrading and redecoration” with a view to reopening it as a hotel.

The plans will see the façade upgraded, the replacement of windows and doors, the addition of a lift, internal refurbishment, and the repair of damaged and dated elements including the roof.

Once made up of 15 bedrooms, the new hotel would be made up of 13 en-suite bedrooms once ready.

A SEAFRONT hotel in Llandudno could be set for an expansion, after a planning application was submitted.

The Grade II listed Llandudno Bay Hotel, on the promenade, could see the conversion of its lower ground floor rooms into six additional bedrooms, all complete with en suites.

The planned work would also see a renovation, the replacement of windows and doors to elevations on the lower ground floor and ground floor.

The hotel has already cut its carbon footprint and running costs as part of a “green revolution”.

Everbright Hotel Group also plans to invest £2m to cut carbon at its existing sites

A hotel group aims to add three more sites to its portfolio and has a £2 million plan to cut carbon. Everbright Hotel Group wants to increase the number of properties its owns from seven to 10 in North Wales and the North of England.

It also plans to repeat its successful investment at Llandudno Bay Hotel, where the use of green technology saw carbon footprint cut by 84 per cent and energy bills slashed from a quoted £300,000 to £100,000.

A bed and breakfast in Llandudno has been named the best in Wales by the AA. The AA awards celebrate the very best of Britain's B&Bs.

They give out annual awards for each nation for the best Restaurant with Rooms of the Year, Inn of the Year and Bed & Breakfast of the Year.

This time the B&B prize for Wales went to Bryn Derwen in Llandudno. ....Link     https://bryn-derwen.co.uk/

It is a Five Gold Star AA site and its Tripadvisor scores are incredible.

When it came to the AA judges, this is what they had to say: "Located in a quiet area of Llandudno, Bryn Derwen is just a short walk from the main shopping area and local restaurants. A friendly welcome is assured at this impressive Victorian house, which retains many original features such as tiled floors and fine stained-glass windows.

A SEAFRONT hotel in Llandudno which closed last year remains empty, with furniture still in place and considerable vegetation growth.

White House Hotel, at St George’s Crescent, closed at the end of 2023, with its staff made redundant.

Liquidators said operator Seaside and Rural Breaks Limited had suffered during a difficult period for the hospitality sector.

The 56-bedroom, Grade II listed hotel, located in a prime position on the town’s seafront, saw costs spiral and was likely not helped by several poor reviews online.

THE GRAND HOTEL is the worst-rated hotel in Llandudno – so I went to stay the night and see what it was like for myself.

The Grand Hotel, which dominates the skyline by the town’s famous pier, first opened in 1902, and replaced a hotel and bathhouse originally built in 1855.

It became one of the biggest hotels in Wales at the time, and for many years was renowned for its glamour and service.

A North Wales hotel will be "iconic" once a major revamp is carried out after it was bought by UK chain. JW Lees has snapped up The Craigside Hotel on Llandudno's Little Orme from Whitbread.

The site is in need of a spruce up and a JW Lees spokesman says it will get a "full Inns treatment". The company already owns the Links Hotel in the same town and The Groes Inn in the Conwy Valley.

Let’s hope the Marine Hotel gets a coat of paint under new owners, as it looks grim at the moment.

The Hydro looks fantastic after its recent exterior refurbishment.

PLANS to convert a guesthouse in Llandudno into an aparthotel have been labelled “disingenuous” by the town council planning committee.

Wedgwood Hotel, at 6 Deganwy Avenue, could be converted into an aparthotel after plans were submitted to Conwy County Borough Council.

Kidderminster-based applicant Tom Deacon, of Effective Stays Ltd, has also proposed the hotel’s refurbishment and modernisation.

This would include the construction of a hip to gable roof, an entrance canopy, and a rear dormer.
