I remember the Hotel because I used to see their son Ronnie in town when we were in our teens. I think Ronnie used to go to the Wireless College in Colwyn Bay but I haven't heard anything about him for about 45 years

The queensway is now the right hand side of the whitehouse hotel. Next door to the old wavecrest which is now part of the somerset.

I also remember Ronnie, I last saw his parents in about 1972 and he was then in the Merchant Navy and, if I remember, was a Radio Officer.
He also had a band that used to practice at his parents' hotel in the winter months.  They were called the "Shandelles" as a tribute to Del Shannon...

I have an idea it was converted into apartments a few years ago.

You are quite right Bri. It was converted into good quality appartments a few years ago. It's the building on the corner of Charlton St and Trinity Square, not to be confused with the Balmoral Holiday Flats on the other corner which have had a major revamp also into appartments in the last 2/3 years.

I had a customer in my shop today, (a novelty in itself I suppose )  But he had an interesting tale to relate.

He arrived at one of the smaller promenade hotels today, and asked for a room for tonight.
He had noticed the hotel advertised on the internet yesterday.

When he tried to check in, he was told that despite being half empty, the usual price was higher than advertised online, which was via a room-booking website.

So, incredulous, he was forced to whip out his ipad, make the booking online, whilst standing in reception.... and could only check in when the confirmatory email came through!!
The only loser here is the hotel, who could have avoided paying the search company's commission.
His offer of cash or debit card were ignored.   Crazy.

I was looking for a hotel in Manchester last year and found a great one on laterooms.com for £100 (room only). After speaking to a friend who has a hotel in Llandudno I learned that laterooms charge 25% for any rooms they sell so I rang the hotel and explained to the receptionist that if she let me book the room directly for £87.50 we would both be £12.50 better off.

After a short pause she said "that sounds very fair and I'll throw in a couple of breakfasts aswell".

Sad news,  The Belmont Hotel,  at the junction of Church Walks and North Parade, is closing down.

It is the one run by the Royal Blind Society.

The staff have all been issued notice of redundancy.
