You surprise me, Trojan, there has always been one hung up in the lounge bar of the Links Hotel.

I think there is also an old photograph of the previous Mostyn Arms in there as well when it was located next to St Hilarys Church and before Her Ladyship relocated it down the road.

The Grove Boarding House later became the Grove Restaurant and is currently a rapidly declining block of flats. Speaking of which, several of the buildings in Upper Mostyn Street (notably the ones which have flats above the shops) seem to have very undesirable people living in them. I witnessed a local business owner having an altercation with a woman who was attempting to kick in a door at the side of his premises only the other day. The woman and her partner are known drug addicts - imagine trying to run a business with these people swearing at each other at the top of their voice only feet away from your customers...

Yes Dave, and only FEET from the queue for Home Cooking too.
Its a disgrace, and the landlords of some of these 'apartments' should take action, and be ashamed of what they are allowing to reside in a conservation area.

Here are a couple more postcards, I've included them in Hotels of Llandudno but they might have been private residences  :)

The Hawthorn - that was run as a guest house by Mr & Mrs McElroy in the 1960's & 70's.

They hailed from Liverpool originally.

One of their sons John had a motorcycle repair shop close to the rear of the Hawthorne in Brookes Street.

Another of their sons Allan, sadly died in a motorcycle accident when riding pillion on a motorcycle near the Links Hotel. I believe the motorcycle came into contact with a bus.

Their other siblings, Arthur, Ian and Ann still live locally, whilst Jean lives somewhere in England I believe.

That picture brought back some good memories for me. This was the first hotel I ever stayed in. It would have been in the early sixties.
I was invited to join a friend and her mother for a week's holiday there. I remember the excitement of walking towards the hotel in the late afternoon and looking at the menu to see what was for the evening meal. It was the first time I ever had prawn cocktail!

This was Room 101 in the Ormescliffe Hollins. I expect you had a "room with a view?"  ;)

It's now the Regency Royal Hotel. http://www.regencyroyalhotel.co.uk/

(The restaurant is very good, maybe you could return sometime for a prawn cocktail)

O'h, thanks for those pics. The interiors are so interesting. I particularly like the one with the fire. I am always on the lookout for hotel rooms that still have fires. I stayed in one in Bath last year that had a coal fire in the room.
Actually I don't have any memory of the room we had back then but I can remember the restaurant and the menus. O'h dear, what does that say about me!

Does anyone have a copy of the photo. referred to previously of the pub which used to be next door to St. Hilary's church.  Family buried there now.  It's only recently we found out that Lady Augusta Mostyn didn't like it being so close to the church so had it moved  down Conwy Road.

The Mostyn Arms. I believe I have a photo somewhere.

Its good to see that there is scaffolding up around two of Llandudno's hotels, which were getting close to 'Eyesore' status.
(At least externally they were).
There is now work underway at both The Ambassador and the Four Oaks, both on the Promenade.

Recently, I was with Dave R when I remarked on the poor state of The Ambassador.
Apparently I voiced my loud opinion right in front of the owner!!   Well, maybe he listened to me....  L0L

I had the misfortune to book in there a few years ago - and walk straight out again after seeing the state of our room!  You should see some of the slatings it has on Trip Advisor...  I wish I'd looked there before I booked!

Does anyone remember The Queensway on the prom?  It was owned by Tom & Rae Owen back in the 1960's.
