I wouldn't bother approaching the Pier management, they hate the extravaganza with a passion, (wrongly in my view)

But, during the Extravaganza last year, I couldn't move in Wetherspoons, Fountains Bar, or The Carlton.
Every one of them was packed out so much that I could not get served.

Also, maybe the likes of Caffe Nero have a marketing budget they could dip into?  Its a major chain after all.

Very sad news at the death of David Price our town crier,he was a brilliant worker for our event and will be sadly missed by all.

Omg its that time of year when i forget about xmas lights and start to think extravaganza,i do still think why i spend so much of my time doing it,its not for the applause i assure you,i know deep down i do love to see the town busy and it does give our children one weekend when they can really look forward to going to town,i think its not until the Monday teatime comes along that you can sit back and say,yes that was worth it,because of the weather and isks that the weekend is not so enjoyable for a handful of us,this weekend i have to attend a traffic management course,nobody is forceing me but i would love togo xmas shopping with the rest of you,anyway here is t 2013 and lets hope all goes well.

Yes, well done, Wrex, I've seen how hard you work that Weekend.

Well we head into 2013 with the good news that the prom day has at last been moved out of competition with our event ,for this year at least.It will help the operators of the funfair on the Monday to take more money,like it or not its their rent that keeps the event ticking and will help us to continue,we are trying to improve but its hard with the manpower we have to cover all aspects fully,but we keep trying.

Somebody asked me if i was being paid for doing the Extravaganza,they had heard some where,the answer is not a bean,nobody gets paid anymore,the chairman that resigned last January was but noone is anymore im glad to say.

    i've just spent an hour or so searching around all the websites covering the extravaganza, and in particular the Extravaganza street parade. However I haven't come up with the information I was after. So, here goes, I know that several TTF members will know the answer.
    The parade, the one that takes off around midday on Sunday and Monday and usually goes along Madoc Street. Someone dressed in more or less victorian costume, do they need permission and/or approval before joining in, or do they just turn up and enter as and when appropriate?
    Obviously the mega big entrants, steam engines, morris dancers etc must have to make contact beforehand with someone. But I was thinking more of an individual, a stilt walker or similar?  Also, hhrrrmmm, who much, or how little, or even none at all.  The dreaded "advertisement"  Can any member point me in the right direction.  Mike

I believe anyone who turns up in a Victorian outfit at the start of the Parade can join in, free of charge.

My wife and daughter were togged up in Victorian dresses a couple of years ago, and were encouraged to join in the parade.
The more the merrier it seems.

I wonder if most folk know that many of them are paid?  The big engines have to have their coal bought for them, the stilt walkers, etc.  tend to be given actual cash payments. The vintage vehicles who are part of the Transport Festival tend to simply turn up and join in - 'cos they enjoy it :-) But the parade was always one of the costlier elements of the weekend.

Thank you for your interest Ormegolf and yes all are welcome in the parade it helps our cause and the parade,all you need to do is turn up and wait for Mr Kevin Chin to tell you when and where to join the parade.Ian you are bang on about the payments,all entertainers need paying  along with the marching bands,the traction engines,police,ambulance,street cleaning etc,etc ,any body can sponsor an engine for £300 which includes your name on the engine for the weekend and to ride in the parade on your engine.Help is the name of the game,financial,physical and mental(me) so don;t hesitate to get involved.

I have walked in the parade every year in Victorian Dress--just turn up and join in. Most people are chatty and you meet the same folks year in and year out.
