Final race of British Rally Championship 2021 to take place in Llandudno

THE action-packed British Rally Championship is all set for 2021, with the Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally coming to Llandudno on October 30.
The Cambrian Rally will provide the 2021 curtain call - and potentially the championship showdown. With unprecedented support from Conwy Council, this British rallying favourite will use the iconic Wales Rally GB stages, and come October will play host to the crowning of the 2021 British Rally Champion.

Britain’s premier rallying series will feature seven events across the four home nations, with events in Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales.

The new-look calendar will once again offer crews in R5 and Rally2 cars in the top-flight as well as R2 and Rally4 cars in the Junior BRC a challenging, action-packed campaign with asphalt and gravel rallies providing seven different and unique challenges.

The 2021 season will begin on a sealed surface for the first time in over 40 years, with a trip to Northern Ireland for the classic Circuit of Ireland. A name synonymous in the world of rallying, the Belfast-based event will play host to the phenomenal, bumpy, challenging Irish roads and unpredictable weather conditions – the perfect BRC curtain raiser.

A MOTOR rally is forecast to provide a much needed boost for tourism businesses if Covid restrictions are eased to allow it to go ahead.

The Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally was originally scheduled to be held on February 20, but has been postponed to October 30 after organisers took the decision to reserve a new date to ensure its continued presence in three major championships.

It means the event has secured its position in the British Rally Championship, the British Trials and Rally Drivers Association Championship, and the Welsh Rally Championship, together with the Association of North Western Car Clubs Championship, ensuring that it could attract entrants from throughout Europe.

A COMMITMENT to making the event net carbon neutral by 2025 has been made by the organisers of the Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally.

Through working with other parties involved in preserving the environment in Wales, organisers aim to promote good sustainability practice throughout the planning and delivery of the event as far as is reasonably practical, and to help the event’s partners, clients and suppliers do the same.

THE Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally needs more volunteers to lend their support for the 2021 edition of the popular event.

As always, organisers of the rally are on the lookout for a small army of heroes to help run a safe and successful event.

A spokesperson said: "If you are able to assist in some way, whether it’s at the service park in Llandrillo College Rhos on Sea, the start finish podium in Llandudno or in the forest stages please get in touch.

Taking place in October, the 66th Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally is expected to be the last round of the season of the Motorsport UK British Rally Championship, BTRDA Rally Series, Pirelli Welsh Rally Championship and the ANWCC Championship and is set in the challenging welsh forests.

These forests of North Wales are synonymous with rallying especially the Lombard RAC (now the WRGB) back in the late eighties, with legendary drivers such as Roger Clark, Colin McRae, and Richard Burns.

The Cambrian has been enjoyed by a number of top WRC drivers. In 2009 Mikko Hirvonen was the course car in his works WRC Ford Focus. In the same year Mads Ostberg took the overall win in a WRC Subaru. Mikko Hirvonen also won the Cambrian back in 2000, when he was just 20 years old, in his Subaru Impreza WRC .
