The official statistics from the U.K.Gov website shows that despite a gradual increase in cases, hospitals are pretty much empty, and very few are dying now.
I’ve been saying for a while that the virus may well be diluting down now, as all viruses have done since time began.  They never go away, the simply weaken and become absorbed.
There are over a 1000 cases per day, and that’s creeping up... BUT..
There are 1257 NHS hospitals in the U.K., and only 870 Covid patients in hospital
That’s way less than one person per hospital.
There are only 76 people in ICU in the whole of the U.K..
Only two people died in the U.K. yesterday.

Is this really enough to keep the economy paralysed, and our children and old folks marginalised?

In Spain 🇪🇸..  despite there being over 4000 Covid cases per day, further evidence of the virus weakening.
A Public Health Professor says this...
‘Only around 3% of current cases require hospital treatment, less than 0.5% need intensive care and the current death rate is as low as 0.3%.
"Mortality is very low, as is the hospitalisation rate. Something has changed big time’

His words, not mine.

One of the conundrums is whether the increase in cases is actually a consequence of increases in efficient testing or whether there's actually a real net increase in cases.

Fester, it's a very difficult one to judge but I know that the present situation from the financial point of view is unsustainable.     Do we now open the gates to let the economy get back on it's feet and chance that the Coronavirus will continue to weaken?
It's a decision that the UK and most of the countries in the world will have to think about before too long

On a different note does anyone know personally of a family unit that hasn't broken some lockdown rule?    I only know of two families that haven't broken one rule or another
There have been a number of lockdowns in parts of Lancashire where there has been a rise in Coronavirus and one of the most stupid things I have heard from a spokesman for that community was that "there weren't enough rooms in the family house"
I suppose saying that there were too many people living under the same roof would not be very PC!

Just check out the daily death toll in the USA if you think the financial point of view takes precedence Hugo.  &shake&

I'm not saying that the financial point of view should take precedence,  just that the UK hasn't got unlimited funds to support indefinitely the financial measures that they have been doing.
A balance has to be reached at sometime and it is hard for the USA,  Brasil  and the UK to recover from a bad start due to the actions of the leaders of those countries.

But BlongB,  back in April, they were digging mass graves in New York City,  none of that is going on any longer?
The charts show, that in the USA, the number of deaths per day has hardly risen, whilst the number of cases has skyrocketed.

Indeed;  it's one of the truly perplexing questions. Global infections have reached 23.5m but deaths are climbing far more slowly, and have only reached 809,106. Of course, that's still far too high, but a lot of epidemiologists are currently scratching their heads.

From the Guardian:

"Most statistics indicate that although cases of Covid-19 are rising in many parts of Europe and the United States, the number of deaths and cases of severe complications remain relatively low. For example, patients on ventilators have dropped from 3,000 at the epidemic’s peak in Britain to 70. At the same time, the number of cases in the UK have begun to rise in many areas.

What lies behind this trend?

Doctors are unsure exactly what is going on. Some suggest that medical interventions are more successful at treating those who suffer complications from the disease. For example, the drug dexamethasone was recently shown to improve survival rates among patients requiring ventilation. Others argue that different factors are involved. One suggestion is that Covid-19 is now becoming a disease of younger people who are less likely to die or suffer serious complications.

Does that indicate that the worst may be over?

No. Other researchers point to the situation in the US where there was a recent spike in cases among people in their 20s and 30s – but which was then followed by a spike in cases in older people who picked up the disease from younger people. As a result, there has been a jump in deaths. A similar pattern could occur in Europe and in the UK, possibly in a couple of weeks, some scientists warn."

After reading various pieces of reputable information recently, I agree with the above .........

"One suggestion is that Covid-19 is now becoming a disease of younger people who are less likely to die or suffer serious complications."........

"a recent spike in cases among people in their 20s and 30s – but which was then followed by a spike in cases in older people who picked up the disease from younger people. "

I think those susceptible should continue to follow safety protocols.

Stats from the U.K.Gov website tonight.
Covid cases drift upwards, but so what?
As you can clearly see, very few people in hospital, hardly anyone dying.
Come on... let’s get real... why the HELL are we still allowing jobs, families and society to be wrecked like this?

Coronavirus: 'Covidiots' criticised on Tui quarantine flight.

A flight from Zante where nearly 200 people were told to self-isolate was a "debacle" with many travellers not wearing masks, a passenger has said.

Stephanie Whitfield told the BBC the Tui flight was full of "covidiots" who appeared to disregard the rules.

Sixteen passengers on flight TOM6215 from the Greek island to Cardiff have now tested positive, Public Health Wales (PHW) said.
"A full investigation is now under way as these concerns weren't reported during the flight or before today," Tui added.

The 193 passengers and crew who were on board the flight on 25 August are being asked to self-isolate for a fortnight.

Health officials said seven people from three different parties are believed to have been potentially infectious on board the aircraft.

Re: General Covid 19 news.....Venue Cymru

Venue Cymru has announced that it will remain closed until December this year.

The Llandudno theatre has been closed since the lockdown was announced in March, with We Will Rock You the last show to have been staged at the venue.

Since then, the site has been used as a Rainbow hospital, providing an additional 350 beds to the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and acting as an essential testing centre.

98% of shows that were due to take place in the venue have been rescheduled into 2021 and 2022.

A council leader said he is “looking closely” at Covid statistics in his county after speaking with his counterpart in Caerphilly.

The South Wales county was subjected to a lockdown by Welsh Government, after Covid-19 infection rates hit 55.4 cases per 100,000 population .

Conwy county council leader Sam Rowlands revealed during Tuesday’s cabinet meeting he had spoken to Cllr Philippa Marsden, his counterpart at Caerphilly county borough council.

Cllr Rowlands was speaking to the cabinet about schools reopening in Conwy county and thanked staff and parents for “having faith” in the authority’s ability to reopen schools safely.

However he said there had been cases of Covid-19 among students elsewhere.
He said: “We here in Conwy are looking closely at the data and the number of Covid-19 cases.
“We are working with Public Health Wales and we are hoping Welsh Government are working with us.

“We are keen to avoid a lockdown but if we need to for the safety of our communities, that’s something we would have to look at.
