A very worrying aspect of this second wave is the growing numbers of fatalities. The world swept past the 1m dead mark in the early hours of this morning, and the rate of mortality is speeding up.

ALMOST 80 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed across our region by Public Health Wales (PHW) today.  ref Pioneer

There have now been 5,958 lab-confirmed cases of the virus from the combined counties that make up the North Wales region since the outbreak of the pandemic - after more incidents were confirmed in the latest figures released today.

Public Health Wales confirmed that the 78 of today’s 596 newly confirmed Welsh cases were from the northern region and can be broken down as such:

• Anglesey – Five (7.1 per 100,000 population as of today)
• Conwy – Four (3.4 per 100,000 population as of today)
• Denbighshire – 15 (15.7 per 100,000 population as of today)
• Flintshire – 18 (11.5 per 100,000 population as of today)
• Gwynedd – 14 (11.2 per 100,000 population as of today)
• Wrexham – 22 (16.2 per 100,000 population as of today)

Figures from the Office for National Statistics, which are considered a stronger indicator of the overall impact of the virus, and which are based on all deaths where COVID is mentioned on the death certificate, stand at 574 for the health board area.

A further 10 people have died and 425 people have tested positive for coronavirus, Public Health Wales (PHW) said on Tuesday.

It means a total of 1,640 people in Wales have died with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The new cases take the total of people to test positive in Wales to 26,872.

The total number of people tested in Wales is 565,982, with 539,110 testing negative. It said 10,204 tests were carried out on Monday.

Of the new cases, there were 44 in Cardiff, 40 in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wrexham and Flintshire and 33 in Swansea.

There were 14 in Neath Port Talbot, 19 in Bridgend, 21 in Gwynedd, 16 in Denbighshire, 10 in Conwy and Blaenau Gwent.

Other counties reported fewer than 10 cases, and 103 cases were resident outside Wales - which is partly explained by students seeking tests in the towns where they are now studying, Public Health Wales said.       https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-51888681

I'm not sure I understand these figures and their relevance Steve.
Each time new cases are announced on a daily basis the numbers are added to the ongoing total of ****per 100,000.
Unless the population is static and at exactly 100,000 surely it must be incorrect?

The second thing is comparison figures with those issued elsewhere. For example, yesterday you  put the number of cases at 813.1 per 100,000 in Conwy. The national news was quoting city hotspots at around the 450 per 100,000 which are half the figures for Conwy and yet they are the supposed danger areas. Are the Conwy figures not total cases YTD and the those quoted on the news for Manchester , Liverpool etc current active cases?

On Monday you published figures for Conwy that show on a daily basis the number of new cases as 4, or 3.4 per 100,000 population. Surely that figure is considerably more relevant than the 813 as it shows the likelyhood of being in contact with someone with the virus.Assuming those that test positive quarantine themselves as directed aren't the odds of close contact with anyone with the virus extremely small and that if individuals, report for testing when symptoms show and we all take the extra precaution of wearing masks and keeping a safe distance we should not have to worry too much?
