Crews attend multiple wildfires across Wales in one day

Firefighters across Wales have battled multiple wildfires in one day, with one suspected to have been started deliberately.

Crews in north, mid and south Wales were called to several incidents on the Gower Peninsula, Camarthenshire and Llandudno throughout the day on Tuesday and into Wednesday.

One blaze covering about 500 square metres on Cwm Mountain, Llandudno, near the hospital, is suspected to have been started deliberately as "youths were seen leaving the area" said North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.............. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj0q895j6mqo

'The orange glow just got worse and worse' - witness
Fire crews called to a house blaze in Conwy county

A witness has told how he saw an "orange glow" as flames broke out at a house. The blaze damaged the property on Cadwgan Road in Old Colwyn on Saturday afternoon.

Three fire crews were sent to the scene. It is not believed that anyone was hurt in the blaze which started due to an electrical fault in a dishwasher.

I was enjoying a drink in the Crossings by Lidl's in Llandudno Junction about half an hour ago when a Police officer called in and ordered us to evacuate the property.    Apparently a vehicle had caught fire nearby and a number of fire engines and Police vehicles were at the scene.
The smell from the burning vehicle was awful so I was glad to get away from the area.

Live: Fire investigations underway after two blazes in North Wales overnight
Crews called to incidents in Llandudno Junction and Pwllheli

As I posted last night the pub had to be evacuated because of the fire and the smell from the fire was just awful.   I feel sorry for the people who lived near the fire as the smell just lingers

Firefighters are urging people to use tumble dryers safely after a major blaze damaged a home.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called to a property in Menai Bridge, Anglesey, on Wednesday evening, where the fire had spread from the garage into the conservatory and the main property, as well as to the garage of the next door property.

The fire is thought to have been caused by a fault in the tumble dryer, and the crew has issued safety advice for people using them, including keeping the machine ventilated and not ignoring warning signals.

The fire spread through the conservatory, into the main property and also to next door's garage

How to prevent tumble dryer fires
The fire service's tips include:

Don't overload plug sockets - the high wattage for a tumble dryer means that it needs its own 13-amp socket. Keep an eye out for any scorching or burn marks, including checking any visible electrical wires

Don't leave appliances unattended – don't turn the tumble dryer on before you leave the house or go to bed. Tumble dryers contain powerful motors with fast-moving parts that can get very hot

Keep your dryer well ventilated - make sure the vent pipe is kink free and not blocked or crushed in any way

Always clean out the filter after using your tumble dryer

Always allow each drying programme to complete fully before emptying - if you stop the machine mid cycle, the clothing will still be hot

Don't ignore the warning signs – if you can smell burning or clothes feel hotter at the end of the cycle, stop using your appliance and have it checked out by a professional

Make sure you have working smoke alarms - test them regularly, once a week is recommended

A spokesperson for NWFRS said: "We received a call at 9.19am, Tuesday 1 April, to reports of a fire at a property on St Seiriol's Road, Llandudno.

"The fire is thought to have been caused by incense candles which resulted in severe damage to the kitchen.

"We would like to remind the public to always use candles and incense responsibly."

Doesn't surprise me. On the way back from Glan Clwyd Hospital this afternoon there's a sharp bend in the A548 at Elwy bridge. I saw a family happily running a barbecue on grass.

A couple of years ago I was on Colwyn Bay beach with my dog and someone told me to avoid a certain spot in the sand.     Apparently some irresponsible moron had buried a disposable barbeque in the sand and it was still very hot.        I've heard of that happening before but with serious consequences when a bare footed person trod on the spot where the BBQ was
