Palladium?
Well Done!  :) It is one of a pair of golden eagles that sit on the twin domes of the Palladium/Wetherspoons.

i allways believed thorpes builders yard was at the end of jubilee street and to the left hand side of central school,it was where we used to have our ciggies and do our scrapping, and joe butler would come out of the school gates into thorpes yard and catch us  confiscate the fags and drag us by the ear back into school to see mr garfield rees our head

I thought Thorp's builders yard was on Thorp Road which is the road to the side of what is now Ysgol Tudno at the end of Jubilee Street.  It is still there in fact behind a pair of high wooden gates although it is now part of a garden belonging to a house on Trinity Avenue.  A number of years ago a planning application was submitted for a house to be built on the land but nothing ever came of it.

no that is not thorps old yard,i believe that was used by another local small builder, one of the hobsons or at least it was in the early sixties, thorps yard was on the other side a few yards down.my wife worked in mansfield with winnie thorp the wife of eddie who owned thorps but she thinks they were only doing funerals by the sixties. it is surprising how many local builders also done funerals.

They were in Breton St in 1900. Maybe they moved location - if it's the same Thorp family.

That's a clever angle you've shot that one from Dave and I think it's the Royal Hotel in Church Walks.

Absolutely right, Hugo, I was hoping that the odd angle would fool people a little longer!  ;D

I knew roughly where it was because of the trees and hillside in the background but couldn't work out exactly where it was located.   Eventually I did a Google street search half way up Old Road and then did a 360 degree search and there it was.       $3towns$ $happy$

Yes, in the old Goods Yard. I thought you might get this one because I know you've been exploring down there!  $good$
