The North Wales campsite where visitors say there's 'nowhere better'- with pitches from £13 a night
One such place that consistently attracts families each year is Shell Island in North Wales.
A staggering 300 acres of the 450-acre Gwynedd site is dedicated to camping, making it arguably the largest campsite in the UK with a whopping 800 pitches. The site is the largest in the UK with 300 acres of land dedicated to camping and 800 pitches available for tents and motorhomes

It must be 50 years since I last went camping there and I can still remember how nice the site was,  perfect on a day like today

Celtic rainforest facing species 'extinction crisis'
An "extinction crisis" is happening in Britain's temperate rainforests where some of the world's rarest mosses, lichens and liverworts are vanishing, ecologists have warned.

Also known as Celtic rainforests, temperate rainforests are found primarily along the UK's western coasts.

The 'hidden' historic Welsh home that really should be more famous
The property is not on the usual tourism trail but has crucial link with language and culture of Wales

It's not hidden but on the side of the road and is worth the walk uphill from either the A470 or from Penmachno.    I was lucky enough to be there when they were restoring the building and was given a guided tour inside.

Tellytubby was on Llanddwyn Beach yesterday and saw the film crew getting ready to film Game of Thrones
As a bonus he didn't have to pay any car parking fees which are now sky high.    £5.00 for the first two hours then 70p for every 20 minutes thereafter   :o

The North Wales seaside resort dream that 'never quite came true'
Row of homes stand in splendid isolation after wider resort failed to materialise

That terrace of houses is set in a fantastic location on the banks of the River Mawddach and have stunning views in all directions.     I had to smile when I read it as there has been a great deal of controversy over the public footpath that goes past the terrace.   The residents routed it around the back of the buildings and I don't blame them for that but locals took the matter to court and the ruling was over turned with the footpath going alogside the river in front of the houses.     When we walk on the Mawddach trail from Penmaenpool we make a diversion and go past these properties on our way to Barmouth

The 'frozen in time' world beneath the hillsides of North Wales
'It's like the miners had just downed tools and left'

Hidden beneath a slate covered hillside is "a working world frozen in time" which very few get to glimpse. The slate industry employed close to 20,000 people in Wales at its peak in the late 19th century.
I have visited this place before and it is well worth the effort of getting there

Tiny 'Lonely Tree' vies with UK giants to be crowned Britain's best
The iconic birch may not have many more chances to win Tree of the Year

A small, slightly bedraggled tree next to a Gwynedd lake is in the running to be crowned the UK’s most iconic. The Lonely Tree of Llanberis is easily the smallest and youngest in this year’s Tree of the Year competition but it has quickly become one of the most photographed in Britain.

Perched over pebbles in Llyn Padarn, and framed by Eryri’s mountains, the young birch has survived against the odds to become a cherished local landmark.
When I first heard about the Sycamore Gap tree being felled by a couple of mindless morons my thoughts were with this tree and hope that it didn't meet the same fate
