Apple and the like have, over the years, introduced all sorts of things in an attempt to stop people using their songs without paying for them,

Actually, Apple allow people to use their music in more ways than other manufacturers, and even offer downloads which are completely unprotected.  Any MP3 file is simply data which can be transferred between any two devices using bluetooth, USB or through copying and pasting.  I don't know how the iPad operates in this respect, but it ought to be fairly simple and Dusty's solution is certainly one way round things.

Oh dear, once again I get it wrong, Apple do allow sharing, thick as two short planks, that's me.  I will not post again.

The licence for my anti-virus software expires soon. Can anyone recommend a good free one?

Try this link, Paddy.

It has worked well for me for many years.

Microsoft Security Essentials available as a free download is very good as it updates and will scan automatically and can be tailored to your own needs.  Obviously works well and is compatible with all MS stuff.  AVG as a FREE download  is not foolproof!

Most, if not all of these free anti-virus software's are okay, but for full protection I would always recommend getting a comprehensive protection package which will have additional security over and above the anti-virus.  Over the years I have used most of the free applications, and in all cases, I have had problems, for the last three years I have used Norton 360 All in One Security, it's been fantastic, warms me of possible problems.  If you shop around you can get it for around £30, but you need to buy annually.  At the end of the day, it will cost far more to have your infected computer sorted out, I speak from experience.  You get what you pay for.

There are quite a few decent refurbished ones on ebay for the same price as a new pc. Having used a Mac for about 6 months or so now, I'd never go back to a pc.  :)

Everyone that has a Mac seems to says that, what is it that's so good about them?   If you had to sum up in a sentence why you would not go back to a PC, what would you say?

My ipad is working very well, the only downside is that you can't get flash videos to work on it, apparently Apple says it uses too much battery power?

Apple won't support Flash on any of its mobile devices, with good reason.  In fact, Adobe is discontinuing flash on all mobiles, anyway, as HTML5 is far better suited to animations, so you'll find plenty of alternative apps to play videos.

Flash is rubbish, and a security nightmare.
