I hope that Jackie Thurley does well and doesn't let the CCBC walk all over the Town.     I admired Mandy Hawkins for standing up and objecting to CCBC's policy of writing off payments due from developers that should have been made in lieu of them not building affordable houses
It all needs someone to shake up CCBC

Hugo the county councillors haven’t got any clout these days, unfortunately it’s the council officers that run Conwy now.   As for town council they may as well do away with it,   Nobody seems to know who this reform person is it just shows you how bad it was only 400 bothered voting.  Out of a possible £2 k plus.

I think I may have had a senior moment, I live in the Gogarth/Mostyn Ward and reading about the reform candidate winning was the first I had heard of this election, also I use the postal voting system and nothing arrived................  :-\

Reply for information from Gagarth Councilor Harry Saville .........

You didn’t have a senior moment, the election was for a councillor to represent the Mostyn ward on Llandudno Town Council – you live in the Town Council’s Gogarth ward, so there wasn’t an election in your area.  What might confuse things is that Conwy County Borough Council’s local Electoral Division is called “Gogarth Mostyn” and geographically both the Mostyn and Gogarth Town Council wards.

You’re right to mention the rather low turnout – 400 votes from an electorate of around 2,700.  This is sadly quite normal for town council by-elections, but I expect that Llandudno Town Council’s decision not to request that polling cards be issued to voters may have influenced the low turn out.

The marina is run as a business, charging fees so I am assuming that by saying the repairs need funding, they borrow from themselves
and pay it back later, or am I being naive............ :-\

Cash-strapped Conwy County Council is counting the cost of repeated gale-force storms battering Conwy Quay. The Conwy Harbour Advisory Committee will meet on Wednesday (5 March) to discuss thousands of pounds of damage to Conwy Quay caused by several named storms.

According to the report, harbour staff have responded to several storm events in the past four months alone. Repeated high winds have caused considerable damage to mooring pontoons, which are now costing the hard-up county council tens of thousands of pounds.

“There will be a loss of income in the short term, until the infrastructure repairs can be funded and replaced. This has been actioned via business cases, to replace damaged pontoons to affected areas. The importance of these to Conwy harbour has been declared.”

The report added: “Loss of harbour infrastructure will impact on its revenue. (The) Current loss of five pontoon sections will affect 12 vessels at £1,400 per vessel average. (£16,800 per annum).” In October Storm Ashley caused severe gale force winds, large waves, and flooding, which was followed by Bert and Conall in November, leaving thousands of properties without power, before Darragh hit in December.

Re: CCBC costs and cutting.........£1.6m on pothole repairs
« Reply #696 on: March 16, 2025, 11:59:35 am »
CONWY County Borough Council has spent more than £1.6m on pothole repairs in the last three years, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has revealed.

The council has also had 78 claims lodged against it for damage caused by potholes since 2021.

An investigation by Accident Claims Advice (ACA) found that the council has spent £1,661,084 on pothole repairs.

Despite the rise in compensation claims, Conwy Council has only settled two compensation claims, with damages totalling £300.
