That discussion (BNP etc) is completely different to the point that Angie raised.
The BNP despise muslims and people of different skin colour 'invading' Britain  (Not just England)
Angie was referring to people slagging off the Welsh, in Wales!

Thats tantamount to Asians in Bradford or Brum slagging off the Engish natives...(which they do, but its a totally different issue)

Llandudno is an odd place sometimes.
The centre of North  $wales, and you'll find if Wales and England are playing football at the same time 90% of the pubs will be showing the England game, if the pub has two TVs you can bet England will be on the big screen attracting a big crowd and Wales will be watched by a handful on a little telly in the corner. It's not because it's a more important game - I've seen it happen when Wales have played in proper qualifiers and England in a mickey mouse friendly and it's not because of the tourists as it happens in deepest darkest winter just as much as summer. You might say it's because Wales are rubbish at football, but England are not exactly Brazil these days either

So why is it?

Its because every local football lover supports Man Utd or Liverpool....(or another Premiership club) .... and you get to see your favourite teams players in an England shirt and hope they don't get injured.

I think the majority of welsh people are more passionate about rugby. We are crap at football let's face it. If your watching the footy game in a pub you can see the landlords point business is business in these situations and he has to cater for the demand.  I would go ape if the same arose with rugby but it doesn't thankfully.

Same is true in Dublin, but over there it's still the Ireland game people care about not the English one.

Care about the odd international game of Rugby yes but I wouldn't say they're anywhere near as passionate about rugby than footy, in South Wales maybe, but is there even any professional Rugby clubs in North Wales?
Llandudno Rugby Club play in a field for example, watched by 20 odd people each week! There are much more people in the pubs watching Man United v Liverpool than there are watching Wales play Rugby I think.

The difference is it's the English "fans" who really don't give a doggy doos about watching England play rugby so pubs are safe to show Wales games without losing customers (and obviously from a business point a view, they pay their money and take their choice) So am not having a go at the landlords.

It just puzzles me why it happens that's all. And yes I do think it's annoying, just as someone in say Sheffield would be annoyed if his local was showing Wales v Azerbaijan instead of England v Italy!!

If there were more welsh fans in the pub than english then the senario would probably be different. You are right in pointing out that here in north wales there is no major team but isn't there a rugby school of excellence coming to north wales soon?for exactly that reason. I will have to check, my nephew was supposed to be enroled there sometime next year.

I think I heard something, the facilities at Eiries Park are excellent. I hope one day Colwyn Bay F.C also move down there as it's one of the best grounds in all of North Wales.

I think that you will find that there are more English in Llandudno than Welsh. I believe that this has come about as a result of the tourist industry. Many Yrs. ago the holiday season in Llandudno was seasonal, from about April until September. As a result there were insufficient local people to staff the hotels during the summer months. The population with visitors exploded. So hotel workers were recruited from Liverpool , Manchester etc. The result is that Llandudno became Anglicized, as a result there are fewer Welsh in the town.

Quiggs is correct...and there is another aspect.

Tourists who came here, year in, year out...fell in love with the town,  and came to live here!  (or retired here)

Llandudno can get to you that way.

But don't worry, us old buggers will be dead soon... and we are too old to breed!
