Light Bulbs

Can someone please help me the new type of light bulbs
My good wife decided to buy a new Uplighter which was delivered last weekend.After an "enjoyable" morning following the instructions it is now assembled is standing in the lounge.
Now for the problem.
The instructions are that it should be fitted with 2 x 60W ES lamps.( 60W MAX )
Unable to find any suitable 60 W light bulbs on the island I took myself off to the mainland ( Oban ). Unfortunately the local electrical shop in Oban closed for business last year so I tried the Tescos. It has never been a problem in he past light bulbs were either 40,60,100W etc and you just needed to pick the correct fitting. All the bulbs on display were marked with two Watt ratings eg,
70 watt = 90 watt. On requesting assistance from one of the supervisors the poor lady was no help at all and she sugested  I would be better trying Homebase. I wonder what her job assessment rating is?
Went over to Homebase and had the same problem,ie,all the bulbs marked with two watt ratings and not a 60 watt bulb in sight. Unable to wait any longer making enquiries otherwise I would have missed the ferry home.
I hope to go over to Oban again before the weeknd and I am asking can anyone advise me the correct bulbs to fit the new uplighter.

It all seemed a lot easier before the Greens and E U took over.

We could do with a bit more information on what type of bulb it is. ES usually just stands for Edison Screw, ie. it has a screw fitting, as opposed to a Bayonet cap (BC). There are many different types of ES bulb. There should be a model type for the bulb somewhere in the instructions or on the box.

It's possible that what the assistant was trying to tell you was that the energy saving bulbs (really just tiny fluorescent tubes) have a power rating and an equivalent rating for the old style tungsten bulb. Thus they would show 12w for its power consumption, but 60w as the equivalent tungsten. We've recently managed to get some 25w energy saver bulbs, which are equivalent in brightness to a 150w tungsten bulb. It's never an exact match, but it's a good rough guide.

I like the new halogen bulbs, lower energy than the old tungsten bulbs, but a good light and they work with dimmers too!

To make things just that little less easy, Mull, although ES does indeed stand for Edison Screw, there are three sizes of that fitting in popular use.

I suspect an uplighter will only take a medium fitting small candle-type bulb which, as an energy saver, should have a rating of 11w.  Happy hunting!
