I have been contacted by a lady in Switzerland whose father came from Brazil about 1897 to study at a school in or near Colwyn Bay. I have checked ships' records on Ancestry and he fist got to Southampton and then up to Colwyn Bay! The way people travelled in those days astounds me! Anyway, I then checked the 1901 census and there he was with his brother as a pupil at Dinglewood School, Colwyn Bay. Between 1897 and 1900 there were some boys who became very talented - the comoser, John Ireland, and the father of this lady who was Guilherme d'Oliveira Marques, became a prolific and well bought artist in London. Sadly the school is no longer there, but I would be grateful if anyone has any memories or photos of the school -she was hoping to get some archive records from the school but of course that will not be possible.
