Seaside love: North Wales 'staycations' create bustling jobs market

Seaside towns across North Wales continue to provide thousands of jobs as the “staycation” culture helps boost visitor numbers.
"Our figures show that, so far, the British seaside tourist industry has weathered the age of austerity very well indeed.
"The survival of a large seaside tourist industry should be good news, not just for most seaside towns but also for UK plc."
ewi Davies, Regional Strategy Director at the Tourism Partnership North Wales, said: “The importance of the visitor economy in our seaside resorts as contributor to the regional  economy cannot be over emphasised.
“With 200,000 bed spaces in North Wales – most of which are in the coastal areas – they sustain thousands of jobs.”
Cllr Graham Rees, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Tourism, Marketing and Leisure, said: “We can’t underestimate the value of our tourism offer.
"Our attractions and events are world class,  generating £740m into the local economy, attracting nine million visitors a year and supporting over 12,000 jobs.

Not sure what benefits Llandudno got out of the rally other than a fair number of boy racers tearing in to town.

Must admit I thought it was quiet, I only heard about 3 rally cars, maybe because the Gt Orme section was not used this year,....did it make a difference,... anybody know ?

Many competitors and their crews stayed in town on Friday and Saturday nights and then from the pictures I saw on facebook and twitter, quite alot went out drinking and eating on the Saturday night - all helps the town's economy!

wHY was the orme not used.
"This year’s event will not incorporate the Great Orme due to a lack of parking and spectator facilities.
A rally spokesperson said: “Despite a lot of hard work and effort the organisers have failed to locate a suitable location to park spectators that will satisfy the needs of the event and local residents.”

Thrills and food helping Wales become all-year tourism destination

Fine food, showcase sporting events and a growth in the outdoor sector are all helping North Wales stretch its tourism season.
Transforming the region into an all-year-round destination has been one of the aims for the industry – helping to provide more stable and sustainable jobs for the area.
Driving this ambition are food festivals like Gwledd Conwy Feast and Hamper Llangollen while sporting events like the Tour of Britain and Wales Rally GB are also drawing people to the area over the autumn months

Great photos and video

Cambrian Rally a big hit in Llandudno

Organisers are already planning next year’s event after 130 race crews flocked to the resort on Saturday with the bulk of competition taking place through Conwy’s rugged hills and forests.
Cambrian Rally events secretary Dave Thomas said: “Luckily, like any other event we do, it went extremely well.
“We had too many people wanting to watch if anything, which caused some problems with parking.
“But the big picture, it’s great there is such a high level of interest in the event and we had a good crowd on the prom in Llandudno.”

Gwledd Conwy Feast expected to attract thousands

Thousands of people are expected to flock to a popular festival of food, music and art this weekend.

Gwledd Conwy Feast will be held in the historic town on Saturday, October 25 and Sunday, October 26 and we've got all the information you need to know ahead of the food festival.

Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism Ken Skates said food festivals like Gwledd Conwy Feast is an "excellent example" of why people are visiting Wales as food festivals and thrilling attractions bring in tourism.

Food festivals in Wales have boosted the economy by £16m and helped support hundreds of jobs.

This year, there will be quayside foodhalls, street food from all over the world, and a beer tent featuring the best of North Wales ales.

On Saturday night, there’ll be a live Fire and Light display to celebrate the centenary of Dylan Thomas

How much does it cost?
Feast weekend ticket - Saturday and Sunday costs £12 per adult

Saturday ticket only - £8 per adult

Sunday ticket only - £6 per adult

Children under 16 go free if accompanied by a paying adult.

What exactly do I get for my £6 should I go Sunday,  I can't make head or tail of the Post article  :rage:

If you go on the Sunday and are a Conwy County Borough Council ratepayer and have a 'Conwy Card' (they were given out free in April when rate bills were sent out) then you can get a 20% discount off the £6-00 paying £4-80.
