in my role at Bodnant I have spoken to many visitors who have said they never realised there was so much to do in the area, and also how beautiful it is.

Some of these people are comparatively local - Cheshire, Wirral, Shropshire.  The problems with getting abroad are certainly helping this area, let's hope it continues.

The trend for short-stay trips in Britain is fuelling the popularity of North Wales as a staycation destination, according to a Travelodge study. With fewer people taking a traditional two-week holiday, regions close to big urban areas are attracting increasing numbers of visitors.

A survey of 2,000 holidaymakers by the hotel chain found that North Wales was the second most popular ?rural? destination for Brits this summer, headed only by the Lake District in England. The findings reflected the pull of Snowdonia?s mountains but, for many, the region?s beaches were just as big a lure.

Travelodge?s latest Travel Index estimates 65% of Brits took their main holiday at home this year. Of these, 60% have so far taken three staycation breaks and may yet take another.

Scotland could beat Wales to become first nation in the UK to introduce a tax on tourists

Scotland could become the first nation in the UK to introduce a tax on tourists. Wales has attracted widespread attention over plans by Welsh Government to consult on giving local authorities the powers to introduce a levy on overnight stays in the country.

The consultation will start this autumn but officials have indicated it could be years before the tax is introduced. The country's tourism sector has united in opposition to the scheme - fearing it will drive away some visitors and add to the bureaucracy and costs of businesses in the sector.

Travellers are ditching traditional two-week holiday for staycations due to airport delay fears
'With so many places to see and so little time and money, the traditional two-week holiday is on the decrease'

In a year that has seen heatwaves, travel chaos and household budgets squeezed, Brits are choosing a different travel route to foreign holidays. A third of Brits polled are opting to take their main holiday in the UK this year, new research suggests.

A survey of 2,000 adults found that one in five believed it was too expensive to go abroad, with many still worried about airport delays. The warm weather this summer also helped persuade holidaymakers to stay in the UK, said the report.

Visitors booking stays in Wales could face a tourism tax, including those who already live in Wales, the Welsh government has said.

A public consultation will consider if overnight visitors should pay a levy on top of their holiday costs.

The document reveals, if introduced, the tax would be applied to campers as well as people from Wales holidaying within the nation.

The Welsh government said the tax would support "sustainable tourism".

Some in the tourism industry fear it would put off visitors already cutting back due to higher bills and a charge could hit businesses struggling with rising bills.
