Conwy Valley school to be converted into tourist accommodation

Applicant Sir Richard Williams Bulkeley applied to Conwy County Council?s planning committee, seeking permission to convert the former Ysgol Rowen building into a three-bedroom holiday let.

Councillors voted 11-two in favour of the conversion of the primary school on Buckley Mill Road, despite 33 letters of objection from residents.

Residents and local councillors on Caerhun Community Council objected to the plans complaining of an excessive amount of holiday accommodation in the village.

CONWY Valley could soon have a new touring caravan site ? if plans submitted to Conwy get the green light.

A planning application has been submitted to Conwy County Council for a change of use for the land at Eirianws Farm, near Tyn y Groes.

The site off Llanrwst Road is currently listed as agricultural and grazing land.

The applicant Mr S Roberts wants permission for a touring caravan site for 23 caravans or motorhomes, together with three glamping units, a facilities block, and access to the former farm.

The total cost of the development is expected to be around ?300,000.

Nine objections to the proposals have been submitted to the council, including letters from the Conwy Valley Civic Society and the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales.

Llanrwst one of six trendiest places to live in North Wales...
Nestling in the beautiful Conwy Valley, Llanrwst is home to a famous market, charming shops and cafes and Inigo Jones' wonderful Pont Fawr bridge, dating from 1636, arching over the River Conwy.

Visitors can take in the rural surroundings, then pop into The Eagles Hotel, Blas Ar Fwyd or of course Tu Hwnt i'r Bont tearooms. But there are also other places to enjoy a panad or a latte and a bite to eat such as Caffi Contessa and La Barrica on Ancaster Square. Afterwards, residents and visitors alike can take a relaxing stroll on The Riverside Walk - a fantastic way to recharge the batteries and get closer to nature.

Surf lagoon Hilton has reopened as a hotel after three months housing asylum seekers

The hotel and adventure park are now recruiting again for staff - with surfing due to restart in April

North Wales Live revealed in December that the site could reopen as a hotel in February and the operators have confirmed it reopened on Monday. London Rock Partners, a hotel and asset management company that runs the site, said there had been a number of "service enhancements and upgrades to the facilities".

They have now started a recruitment campaign at the site.

The surfing lagoon - which closed due to technical issues last summer - will reopen on April 1.

Mirdo Budiaci, general manager, said: "It?s an exciting time and what we refer to as a new chapter in Snowdonia?s story of adventure. We welcome back former team members, and meet new ones ? joining us from around the UK and beyond and will really focus our efforts on over-delivery of guest expectation and enhanced service standards, complementing the naturally great experiences that we have on offer here."

Llanrwst: Long-lost chairs returned to castle after 101 years

A long-lost set of chairs have been returned to their castle home 101 years after they were sold at auction.

The 12 walnut seats were carved for the Wynn family of Gwydir Castle in the 17th Century.

The Tudor manor house, in Llanrwst, Conwy county, was sold in 1921 with most of its contents ending up in an English art collection.

The owners have spent almost 30 years restoring the building and looking for the original furniture and fittings.

After buying it in 1994, husband and wife Peter Welford and Judy Corbett managed to locate oak panelling from the dining room in a New York museum warehouse.

They also found its 430-year-old dining table and a 400-year-old chest of drawers.

Anglesey Dr searches for answers over mystery 'man by the lake' painting
He got his hands on the art work during a clear out

The owner of a mystery oil painting has issued an appeal for information about the man at the centre of the striking art work. Dr David Ransome is also offering to give away the stylish artwork for free and wants to find someone with a personal connection to the piece and its unknown subject.

Dr Ransome, formerly of Llanrwst but now living in Holyhead on Anglesey, approached North Wales Live to try to find out more about the impressive and intricate picture.

Scrawled on the back of the canvas are the words 'Llyn Grafnant,' thought to be a mutation of Llyn Crafnant - a lake situated near Llanrwst near the Conwy Valley. A lake is depicted in the painting and can be seen in the top right-hand corner of the piece through the window.

That doesn't look like Crafnant; it seems to be a dam wall, and quite a large one.
