We've both walked the walk down Swallow Street then! The first Japanese restaurant opened in the same street just a few doors away, a place I thoroughly enjoyed going to.
Back to Wrex's request. We visited Top Table just after 10 a.m. today and seated ourselves on the two leather settees on the left as you enter the place. We were quickly attended to and served with a very nice cappuccino (for 'er indoors) and a latte for me. Both were hot, plenty of froth and as good as most we have had in town. We also ordered a couple of crumpets (a portion) to share. Two napkins, each with a knife were placed at the opposite end of the table, and eventually the two crumpets arrived on a single plate. Butter drips through crumpets - fact of life - so as it was known we were sharing, another plate would have been welcome. However, the crumpets were standard ones that one buys anywhere and were very enjoyable. My wife's would have been more so had they had any honey. I enjoy mine with just butter.
The Top Table is very welcoming with comfy seating and a varied menu for general snacking or simple meals. Prices were also very reasonable for a town centre position.
The only down side was the screwed up and obviously used serviettes lying next to us on the window sill and the untidy mess of assorted business cards, brochures and even a leaflet for the 2013 Xmas Fair, alongside.
All in all apleasant and acceptable establishment.
