A quick restaurant review if I may.
Tonight I really fancied a steak, and Fat Cat had none left...so
No 1's Bistro sprang to mind.
I knew that mine hosts, H and Annie would not let us down.
No 1's Bistro nestles at the bottom of Old Road, below the Tram Station, and I have visited many times before.
There are no airs and graces with H and Annie, just a superb meal and a great choice of wines to accompany it.
The menu is medium priced, (Higher than The Empire, Lower than The Seahorse)... and the choice is very wide indeed.
I'll have to keep it quick here, because I'm full and tired... but here goes.
The starters for both Mrs F and I was the Smoked Haddock, with a Welsh Rarebit topping, atop sliced tomatoes and a honey/mustard dressing. We can't resist that, though there are many other choices on the set menu.
There are many more still on the a-la carte menu.
Being the greedy-guts that I am, I ordered the Fish Chowder as an intermediate course.
Lashings of salmon, pollack, prawns and scallops in a mild cheesy broth...Yummm
My main course was the steak I was craving... a rib-eye, grilled to perfection, with a selection of about 6 different veg and potatoes.
Annie is a fabulous chef, she really is.
I was entitled to a sweet, but I was pleasantly full (not that uncomfortable full) ... so we gave it a miss, and we finished the bottle of house white, and toddled home very happy.
£48.00 the lot .... (including the £12.00 bottle of wine) ... Thanks once again and H.
