We had a walk around Penmaenmawr yesterday and I was amazed to find an American Diner straight from the Fifties! the place was spotless and stunning to look at  8) It is called 'The Lazy Dollar' and it's part of the Antique shop next door, also very good to look around!

The Lazy Dollar in Pen opened almost two years ago.  Not that I've been (to Pen at any time in the last two years).

I called in there today, it was pretty good, not to mention apparently the only cafe in Penmaenmawr that was open!

I went about a year ago and really enjoyed it. Does it still only do vegetarian meals?

We plan to revisit and we are veggies, I'll report back! It has a 5 star food hygiene rating in the window and was the most spotless cafe that I've ever seen!

Just been watching BBC buisness and they where in Devon,in a little town where the small retailers are thriveing, cake shops ,butchers etc etc not many shops empty,i think there are many local people who would love to have there own buisness but there is noway independants can afford the crazy rents, rates, etc so it will take Llandudno a few more empty shops before somebody actualy tries to do something. If these conglomerates where fined for having empty premises then maybe they would try a bit harder to fill the shops.I think the whole of Mostyn st has about 11 empty shops,Victoria center about 7 empty units,Mostyn Champneys has 1 empty unit so i suppose at the moment that ain;t to bad,but i have a feeling things are about to get a little worse.

Just strolled round with the dog for 1/4 hour and noticed that NO1 Bistro is " Closed till Further notice". Haven't been past for a while. Is this something new? Some of my guests will be sickened as they used to go regularly. :(

Sadly, Jessops has gone into administration.

Annie and Howard in No1 Bistro have given up the ghost, at least for the time-being, after battling against poor levels of custom for the last couple of years.
However, they may not be closed permanently. Lets see what the new season brings.

Jessops is another matter.
I have often sat in Caffe Nero, looked across to Jessops and said to Dave R that it was a business on borrowed time.

Strange as Jessops always seemed busy when we went in and I bought two cameras there last year!

A lot of these high street chains that go into administration not because a lack of sales but because of severely bad management in the HQ. It's a trait of British business that is sadly very common. Senior management are arrogant and too distantly removed from the coal face of the business.
I once worked for a company as part of a team working on an IT project worth £30m which was scrapped in favour of a more paper based system which required 3 more office staff to administrate.

The Parade in Church Walks has closed. It appears Enterprise, who are the owners, tried to put the rent up. The tenants said no, packed up and moved out.

In reply to dwsi in his thread. I am not too sure of my facts here because I only skimmed through reading it in some paper. Basically though it is correct.
Some big company in retailing, maybe Comet, had a new managing director around twelve months ago. He had previously been high up in Jessops.
At the time I read this, around three weeks or so ago, I was tempted to write somewhere to point out that (tounge in cheek) he had plenty going for him in the job. He left one well paid job in a firm struggling with its finances and he moves to take over another firm just as bad if not worse. Mike

I think he went to HMV, which is also struggling badly.
